A one hour results show for THE VOICE? Really? NBC didn’t feel the need to stretch it to two hours plus? What is wrong with these people!
Well, all I can say is Thank you! Thank you NBC for the most painless results show in the history of these reality singing competitions
After whittling the contestants down to four finalists (one from each of the Coaches Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera), it’s now time to crown a champion.
First, every contestant got one more chance to sing – this time duets with special guest singers.
Javier Colon sang with Stevie Nicks on her hit “Landslide” and they sounded great. The harmonies were perfect and this guy is a star.
Vicci Martinez was paired up with Train lead singer Pat Monahan on his hit “Drops of Jupiter” for another great pairing, with Martinez sounding even better than she did last night.
Dia Frampton sang with Blake Shelton’s wife Miranda Lambert of “The House that Built Me” and it was another magical moment on the show. Chilling.
Beverly McClellen got the short end of the stick again – paired up with OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder on one of his terrible, terrible songs. Really? Ryan Tedder? Totally the wrong person and song for McClellen to sing with. What were they thinking? Couldn’t they have brought a soul singer in or a rocker? OneRepublic? What a joke. Poor Beverly.
The coaches sprinkled some words of advice, final words and then host Carson Daly got to the results. Nothing was stretched out over the hour. The four contestants lined the stage during the last five minutes and he revealed that the difference in voting for the top two was 2%.
Damn!
The top two were Javier Colon and Dia Frampton with … drum roll please … Javier taking the crown. A bit of a surprise, but honestly, just as deserving a Dia (though I would have liked her to win).
Fortunately, both artists will do quite well (as evidenced by them rising to the top of the iTunes charts last night). THE VOICE lets America vote (every iTunes purchase is a vote) and it proves that the best two vocalists are the final two vocalists and not some random Tween voting rigging that AMERICAN IDOL allows.
So what does this mean? THE VOICE has credibility and it gave four deserving singers the spotlight to shine and get a wider audience. The show will need a little more fine-tuning when it returns in the Spring, but overall, it’s a job well done NBC. And when was the last time NBC got a pat on the back for anything during the last couple of years (outside of constantly renewing CHUCK despite lousy ratings).

Well, it isn’t Beverly McClellen or Vicci Martinez – that leaves Javier and Dia
