There was a big surprise tonight on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT during the second week of the Hollywood Quarter-Finals elimination round. Steven Retchless, the male pole dancer made it to the semi finals! To the chagrin of Piers Morgan, who buzzed Retchless’ act mercilessly, Retchless moves forward with three other acts while eight more acts go home.
Of the four acts, the judges picked one while the other three were voted for by the people at home. First to stay was, no surprise, the Silhouettes – the spectacular screen dance group of 42. Next to get in was flamboyant singing sensation Daniel Joseph Baker and lastly the Smage Bros. Riding Shows.
Luckily NBC didn’t try pimping any other shows tonight, they focused on the show we were already watching – AMERICA’S GOT TALENT. Instead, Hot Shell Ray performed their hit Tonight, Tonight while the musical acrobatics Traces performed in a sort of “mini me” Cirque de Soleil moment.
Sent packing this week were Thomas John, the goofy juggler – no surprise there, he dropped his pins twice and Rhinestone Ropers, who seemed to lack the desire to move on with a so-so performance last night.
Also cut form the show were Attack Dance Crew, who did an OK job but clearly didn’t thrill anyone; Geechy Guy – whose time really was up; and the John Mayer sounding Dylan Andre, who perhaps just wasn’t ready yet.
The biggest surprise of the night was when Dani Shay was left out in the rain. She has a unique likability to her that you either have or you don’t. There is something special about her singing, her persona and her character. I have no doubt that somehow she will be successful. She should have made it through but it seems that spot went to Steven Retchlesss.
Now there are 8 waiting to compete in the semi-finals. Next week, four more! Stay tuned.
