Every time there is a new home entertainment format, the first question that pops up is: When will STAR WARS make its debut?
Well, the wait is over. This September, all six films of the STAR WARS franchise will arrive on Blu-ray in three different incarnations (especially for those that merely prefer the original trilogy to the prequel trilogy).
At the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas today, specs on the releases were finally announced.
– Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray (9-disc Set includes all six films) – Suggested Retail Price: $139.99
– Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes I-III) – Suggested Retail Price: $69.99.
– Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy (3-disc set includes Episodes IV-VI) – Suggested Retail Price: $69.99.

“The STAR WARS Saga is the most anticipated Blu-ray collection since the launch of the high-def format,” said Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment President Mike Dunn at CES. “The epic franchise pioneered sound and visual presentation in theaters and is perfectly suited to do it again in the home, with a viewing experience only possible with Blu-ray.”
“With all six episodes available for the first time in one collection, this is a great way for families and home audiences to experience the complete Saga from start to finish,” added Doug Yates, Vice President of Marketing, Online, Distribution, Lucasfilm Ltd. “And with the quality of high-definition, Blu-ray provides the most immersive home experience possible.”
Of course, no details were revealed about whether or not these will be both the special editions and original versions of STAR WARS (chances are, the answer is “no”).
However, looks like the Special Features will finally be the end-all, be-all for fans. According to a separate press release, there will be three additional discs of material which will span 30 hours of extensive special features.
Hot damn!
Now, if Han Solo could shoot first again, we’d be in absolute heaven.
