AMERICAN IDOL: Final 5: Clockwise from top L: James Durbin, Lauren Alaina, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery and Hayley Reinhart | ©2011 Fox/Michael Becker

Cast: Ryan Seacrest, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson Network: Fox, Airs Wednesdays and Thursdays Original Telecast: May 4, 2011 Who is in it to win on the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL? So Randy Jackson just loves to repeat the same crap over and over again. I know, you’re shocked. You’ve never heard that before, I’m sure. The first couple of seasons it was all about “pitchy.” Later, it was “dawg” and “keeping it real” and “yo yo yo.” This season it is “Who is in it to win it!?” My God, if I hear him say it […]Read On »

The series is set in South Park, CO and follows the foul-mouthed misadventures of Cartman, Kyle, Stan and Kenny. CD Review: HANNA original soundtrack by The Chemical Brothers

HANNA original soundtrack | ©2011 The Chemical Brothers

It’s appropriate that a killer kid who represents the feared future of America’s fighting forces also is given a beat by The Chemical Brothers (aka Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons), the industrial-electronica trance band whose pernicious influence on such rock chord n’ computer bleep scores represent all that’s unholy about the future of movie scoring to old-school score fans. So it’s almost a small wonder that it’s taken the duo this long to do their first true movie score with HANNA, not that much of it truly hits to picture anyway. Yet this wash of beats and atmospheres is completely […]Read On »

CD Review: SUPER original soundtrack

SUPER original soundtrack | ©2011 Lakeshore Records

Tyler Bates has proven himself as a master of seditious super hero scoring with the likes of WATCHMEN and EL SUPERBEASTO, upending the sound of muscle men with batshit rock and roll and power-pondering strings. But it’s doubtful if he’ll get quite a screwed-up heroic wannabe as the righteous grill cook of SUPER, his new, enjoyable affront to good musical taste with writer-director James Gunn after scoring that filmmaker’s mass of protoplasm for SLITHER. Bates’ deliberately grungy approach is caught somewhere between making fun of the twisted sight of a tights-wearing Rainn Wilson and teaming up with him. Garage synths […]Read On »

Finally the DANCING WITH THE STARS fans have voted reality star Kendra Wilkinson’s booty off the dance floor along with partner Louis Van Amstel. She lasted through seven weeks during Season 12 and many low scores, but they apparently have had enough of her shimmy shaking. It was definitely time for her to go. The other five … Ralph Macchio, Hines Ward, Romeo, Chelsea Kane and even Kirstie Alley are all better than she is. It would be unfair for anyone else to go, true that happens all the time, but not tonight! The encore tonight given to Team Chelsea’s […]Read On »

Stars: Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Mark Salling, Jenna Ushkowitz Writer: Ryan Murphy Director: Tim Hunter Network: Fox, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: May 3, 2011 I’m really not sure where GLEE is heading. I think that’s the one statement that best sums up my feelings of season two. Season One was a really strong start to a very promising series, but once all of the hype died down a bit, and the second season started I kept getting the feeling that the storylines were […]Read On »

There have been many movies that have lost out on nabbing that Best Picture Oscar, but 1981’s REDS was probably the most glaring snub. Even though it was nominated for 12 awards and writer-director-producer and actor Warren Beatty won Best Director, the film ultimately lost out to CHARIOTS OF FIRE. Now, 30 years later, it’s clear that REDS was the more deserving movie which transformed the life of Socialist activist, writer and journalist John Reed into a sprawling three and a half hour saga. To honor its anniversary, the 2011 TCM Film Festival had a special screening Saturday night, and […]Read On »
