With many networks struggling to find new, breakout shows, CBS has proven to be consistent when it comes to nurturing and creating first-year hits.
At today’s CBS Winter TCA press day in Pasadena, CA, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler spoke about CBS’s continual winning streak and why they’ve been successful while the other networks continue to struggle.
“We’re good at what we do,” she admits. “We have tremendous respect for our audience. I feel when we begin a development season, we don’t go out with a mandate of what we’re going to do and not do. We make the network an inviting environment for new voices and talent. Over the last couple of years, we’ve worked real hard to build strong communication from all divisions in the company from marketing to scheduling. We’re working as a cohesive unit …. we’ve all worked together for many years. There’s a tremendous amount of support within the company. We believe in our business and broadcast television. When we do launch new shows, it is about getting the broadest, biggest audience you can, so we listen to our audience. We treat our showrunners with respect. It’s a great organization and I feel all those elements contribute to the success of the network.”
