After the major fan outcry of AMC’s THE KILLING not revealing who the killer of Rosie Larsen was at the end of Season Two, AMC’s Senior Vice President of Original Programming, Production, and Digital Content John Stillerman says the intent was never to upset the fans as much as they did.
“I think the major takeaway for us after the finale of THE KILLING starts with the headline that for everybody who was frustrated, we hear you, and if we had to do anything differently, I think we would certainly have taken a different approach with respect to managing the expectations of what was going to happen within the season,” says Stillerman while speaking today at the Summer 2011 TCA’s in Beverly Hills. “I can tell you, because I was in on it, that it was never intentionally meant to mislead anybody. There was never one meeting or e-mail or conference call where we talked about it in those terms. Our goal as to create a brilliant, if I can be so humble, piece of character-based murder mystery and try to do something a little different.”
For Season 2, Stillerman says executive producer Veena Sud has an incredible vision for the show.
“We’re incredibly excited about what’s coming down the pike,” says Stillerman.”I will also say you will find out who killed Rosie Larsen in Season 2 – definitely.”
And since the Rosie Larsen stoytelling device has been a mjor plot on the show, Stillerman admits he doesn’t think the show ends once the killer is revealed.
“We see it as an ongoing character drama,” says Stillerman. “[It’s] where we would spin out more stories around the investigation of crimes.”
