The real competition on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT began tonight with twelve of the top 48 performing. In this, the first quarter finals, only 4 of those 12 will go onto the semi-finals – eight will go home for good. The talent is good but the choice is actually not a difficult one to make.
Most of the acts have overstayed their welcome and although cute and creative to see at first now they just have a “been there, done that” vibe to them. Judge Piers Morgan was fed up with quite a few of the acts. He actually buzzed four of the 12 acts. Sharon Osbourne had her fill of the Squonk Opera and buzzed them along with Morgan but Howie Mandel felt no need to get trigger happy with the buzzer tonight. Still, very few lived up to their potential and overall the night was a disappointing one. So, the question is, not how do we pick ONLY FOUR to move on but rather, how do we pick FOUR to move on?
MIAMI ALL STARS (dance troupe)
Morgan: Fabulous
Osbourne: Spectacular
Mandel: Mucho Caliente
Harland: There are just so many of them it’s hard to focus on any of them! Too chaotic! However, their talent is evident.
Chances of getting through: Great
DEZMOND MEEKS (singer)
Osbourne: Amazing stage presence
Mandel: Cheesy, crew shippy like
Morgan: Little Richard meets Tina Turner
Harland: He can sing but his act is not anything special. Good not great.
Chances of getting through: Good
THOSE FUNNY LITTLE PEOPLE (performers)
Mandel: (He loves these guys. He gave them a standing “O”)
Morgan: (X) I don’t really understand…very, very annoying.
Osbourne: The fact that you annoy Piers makes me love you even more!
Harland: Fun to watch, gimmicky, unique, creative but …then what?
Chances of getting through: Good
THE FEARLESS FLORES FAMILY (stunt act)
Morgan: Step it up
Osbourne: Where do you go from here?
Mandel: Scary
Harland: Cool, but one note.
Chances of getting through: Good
THE SQUONK OPERA (a singing and performing act)
Osbourne: (X) The song was not good.
Mandel: It’s kinda like a drug.
Morgan: (X) This is what I imagine hell to be like.
Harland: Not enough happening, the singing was mind-throbbing the visuals unimpressive and the act not good at all. Dull.
Chances of getting through: Slim
J. CHRIS NEWBERG (guitar playing comedian)
Mandel: I would buy a ticket to see you.
Morgan: (X) Completely inappropriate
Osbourne: I liked it.
Harland: Not worthy of more than a local club performance on a Monday night.
Chances of getting through: Slim
SNAP BOOGIE (hip hop dancer)
Morgan: That performance could be in Vegas tomorrow.
Osbourne: Electric!
Mandel: Current! You took it from the street and put it in the seats of a theater!
Harland: Good. Very, very good. One of the best of the night…by far!
Chances of getting through: Great
ECHO (talking parrot)
Osbourne: I love that bird!
Mandel: Is it a 1,000,000 act or a really good birthday party?
Morgan: Echo is funnier than any of the humans we’ve seen tonight.
Harland: It’s a cute animal act but its maxed out its cuteness.
Chances of getting through: Good
THE FIDDLEHEADS (blue grass group)
Mandel: I think you made a mistake in picking that song.
Morgan: It was too big a song for you to sing.
Osbourne: I loved you before, but tonight it didn’t work.
Harland: Billie Jean? Really?!
Chances of getting through: Slim
DUO AERO (acrobatic act)
Morgan: (X) I didn’t get it.
Osbourne: The music drove me mad.
Mandel: A little disappointing.
Harland: Fun maybe as an opening act to the opening act…nothing more.
Chances of getting through: Good
ANNA GRACEMAN (11-year-old singer)
Osbourne: A peanut with a huge voice
Mandel: You are a phenomenon,
Morgan: This is AMERICA’S GOT TALENT!
Harland: She was definitely one of the best of the night but she was a little nervous and Louie Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World is not exactly a good song pick for an 11-year–old white girl.
Chances of getting through: Great
SANDOU TRIO RUSSIAN BAR (acrobatic tightrope act)
Mandel: Is it worth risking your life to win?
Morgan: I can barely watch you do that.
Osbourne: Just…wow!
Harland: It’s very dangerous which makes it almost hard to watch, and even harder to enjoy.
Chances of getting through: Good
The four who are most likely to push forward are Snap Boogie, Anna Graceman, Miami All Stars and Sandou Russian Trio Bar. Tomorrow night, will be reveal. Stay tuned!
