I mean really, what other show, besides SUPERNATURAL could get away with the title of this week’s episode of “Mannequin 3: The Reckoning”?

I wonder how many viewers of the show, and for the matter readers of this article, realize that MANNEQUIN was a terrible ’80s movie starring Andrew McCarthy and a young Kim Cattrall. It scared the crap out of me. No, not because it is a horror movie (in fact, it is a romantic comedy), because I couldn’t believe that someone actually paid people to make a movie as bad this one about a young woman getting cursed and turned into a mannequin only to find true love. Jebus, kill me now. What’s worse is that this was followed up a few years later with MANNEQUIN 2: ON THE MOVE, an even worse movie with Kristy Swanson with nearly the exact same plot.

That brings us to, yes, you guessed it, “Mannequin 3: The Reckoning” – just the fact that I have to explain the title is a freaking glorious thing indeed and why I simply love this show.

The only problem is that I just wish the episode itself was a little better. It wasn’t a bad episode, don’t get me wrong, but a vengeful ghost episode is something that we’ve seen a few times on the show, but obviously the big hook is the aspect of mannequins.

A poor homely woman that worked at a factory was picked on by a group of guys playing a joke. Unfortunately, that joke went horribly wrong and they end up killing her and burying her for eternity. Now she wants revenge and starts taking out the guys one-by-one using mannequin’s to do her dirty work.

Admittedly, while the premise of this episode has been done by numerous horror films and SUPERNATURAL before, this had some good twists: The whole mannequin sex doll thing, a great nod to CHRISTINE and the sister having one of the dead girl’s kidneys, which explained why the burning of her bones didn’t work. There is some really good stuff here that keeps things fresh and interesting.

“Mannequin 3” also tied up some loose ends with Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) former girlfriend – who he was living with while Sam (Jared Padalecki) was running around without a soul – and her kid. While I don’t think this is the last we have seen of them, this at least gives the show an excuse not to show them until maybe the finale of the year.

The only issue I guess that went unaddressed, but will probably get some love in coming episodes is what exactly was up with Sam blacking out and having a seizure as a result of having a Hell flashback. Although this may not happen next week because the Winchester brothers travel to an alternate universe and learn they are the actors they really are. Huh? What? Should be fun.
