THE VAMPIRE DIARIES ramps up towards the season finale with the latest episode “The Last Dance” and everything heads towards a collision of monstrous proportions. So Alaric (Matt Davis) is now possessed by Klaus which is a curious thing. He possesses all of Klaus’ powers like compelling powers over others including other vampires, and he seems to have some extra strength. On the other hand, he doesn’t have to be invited in, and he doesn’t have an aversion to sunlight. I also wonder if while in a human host he is free of a need for blood.
So yes, Klaus is in Mystic Falls, and he’s not wasting any time making sure all of his ducks are in a row so he can complete the magical right to free vampires from having to avoid sunlight. Catherine (Nina Dobrev) is being held by Klaus and his pet Warlock, and she’s none to happy about the fact. Of course, part of that might have to do with self-inflicted torture that Klaus is compelling her to do.
Posing as Alaric, Klaus is able to get the goods on their plan to kill him off which almost royally screws everyone and everything up and also results in the death of Bonnie (Katerina Graham). Thankfully it’s not a real death but one staged by her and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) so that Klaus would back off and think they lost their secret weapon.
Of course, the ‘death’ of Bonnie pushes Elena (Nina Dobrev) to take matters into her own hands to prevent Bonnie from sacrificing herself for real in the battle to take down Klaus. I was kind of surprised the direction Elena ended up going, but then after thinking it over it made sense to bring back Elijah (Daniel Gillies). So I’m waiting with baited breath to see him lay into Klaus, once he gets done beating on our group of heroes.
The plot continues to twist around Caroline (Candice Accola), Matt (Zach Roerig), and Caroline’s mom the Sheriff (Marguerite MacIntyre). This time we found out that the Sheriff not only knows about the Salvatore brothers, but she also knows about the Gilbert’s involvement, and the fact that there are also werewolves in the mix. This is a sub-plot that is going to blow to a head at some point probably when it is the least convenient and everyone will but up to their ass in trouble dealing with Klaus.
One side note on this series, has anyone noticed how many freaking parties Mystic Falls has all the time?! It seems like almost every episode has some kind of party or function, or some big event that someone or the school is hosting. I come from a small town, and we never had THAT many events! It’s kind of become a running gag with me that there are so many parties, and I loved that the first showdown with Klaus comes during a 1960’s dance where everyone is dressed in horrible mod clothing!
