Well, we are definitely in the s#*t now on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES! Still barreling towards the inevitable HUGE season finale, the latest episode “Klaus” explains a lot, asks some new questions, and gives us a lot to mull over until next week.
One thing I love about this series is the fact that more often than not, each episode picks up almost exactly where the previous one left off. Last week Elena (Nina Dobrev) decided to take matters into her own hands to prevent Bonnie from sacrificing herself in the battle to take down Klaus. So Elena decided to pull the silver dagger with the white oak ash out of Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and bring him back to the land of the living. This is an incredibly smart choice it turns out.
The episode has several flashbacks to 1491 showing when Elijah first met Katherine (Nina Dobrev), and also gives us our first look at Klaus (Joseph Morgan) in his real body. I think it was an intelligent choice for the series creators and the casting director to cast an attractive man as the Big Bad for the season. Klaus is a good looking guy, and you really wish things were different and he could be one of the nice, and yes, sexy vamps of the series.
Elena does learn from Elijah that Klaus is actually his brother, and Elijah was in love with Katherine way back when. So what is it with vampire brothers falling in love with the doppelganger? I sense a theme of moth to flame here, kiddies! Elijah and Elena strike up a new bargain that keeps everyone safe, and as a bonus he tells Elena that she and Bonnie (Katerina Graham) can both live through the ritual that will hopefully kill Klaus.
Oh yeah, and did I forget to mention Klaus is actually a werewolf/vampire hybrid? That’s the curse he wants to break – not content with being a vamp, Klaus also wants to be able to go all furry and create an army of hybrids with world domination in mind I would assume.
Back in the human world, before Klaus body jumped back into his original skin suit, he decided to use Alaric (Matt Davis) to blow the lid off the entire vampire community secret to Elena’s aunt Jenna (Sara Canning). So now that huge mess has exploded in Elena’s face while she’s dealing with an apocalypse. Speaking of Alaric, is he going to live or die? He spoke to Katherine after he had been allowed control of his body again, but then he collapsed. His body has taken quite a beating in the last few episodes, and while I know there were witches keeping him together…did all of the injuries return when Klaus left?
Only three more episodes until the end of this season, and it’s heating up in Mystic Falls kids! I have no idea how or if they’ll be able to wrap up all of the plot threads they have dangling this season, but it’ll be interesting to see which ones find a conclusion.
