There’s only so much planning an audience can take when it comes to aliens getting ready to take over earth and V is severely testing that patience.

It’s clear Season Two is going to end on the V’s true intentions finally being revealed to the world – but that means any remaining fans have to suffer through a bunch of filler episodes that lead nowhere fast.

With “Concordia” we learn from Anna (Morena Baccarin) that they’re going to build special buildings to house their spacecraft. These buildings will be created by the humans – but it will be their downfall. As Anna says, “Concordia” is about peace and harmony and co-existence, and it will lead to a worldwide urban  renewal project whose reality results in the V’s wiping us out and making our women breeders. Red Rain was all part of that – it was designed to make women fertile enough to breed more V’s. There’s something about extracting our souls too, but that’s starting to make less and less sense as the weeks go on.

Yes, the invasion is near, and the Fifth Column is going to attempt to assassinate Anna with the help of FBI agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) who gets to look hot for a change by looking sexy in a black dress by episode’s end.  However, Ryan (Morris Chestnut) proves to be a traitor (who does this to save his daughter) and rats the Fifth Column out. Anna is spared, but her second in command Marcus (Christopher Shyer) takes a bullet for her instead.

Meanwhile, Erica is reconnecting with her ex-husband Joe (Nicholas Lea) in an attempt to sway her son Tyler (Logan Huffman) further away from Anna’s influence. Lea is always good, no matter what show he’s in, and it’s a mystery why he hasn’t been given a bigger part to play on this show – since he’s clearly a breath of grounded fresh air.

Oh, and the FBI know Erica is part of the Fifth Column and want to take her down.

I get that V needs to set up plans and have a slow build for full-out alien invasion, but with a truncated 10-episode season – this is painful. I fear that by the time the show finally does its big reveal, the show will have shed so many frustrated viewers, that there won’t be a Season Three pay-off.

V is a love it or hate it show – and I’ve been willing to give it some time to find itself, but “Concordia” throws away all the good will of the last couple of weeks out the window by taking several steps backwards. It was an episode that’s all talk, and little pay-off, except for an aborted assassination attempt. Even Ryan turning on the Fifth Column wasn’t that much of a surprise.

Stilted, silly and torturous to get through, I hope this was just a minor misstep on the way to the show’s complete recovery. It has all the pieces to succeed, it just needs to get on with it and deliver what fans of the original series have been waiting for – an all out V vs. human war. That’s the V series we want to see and for the faithful who have stuck with it for two seasons, that’s what we deserve at this point.
