With only two more weeks to go with ALCATRAZ, the Fox series is building up to a Season 1 finale that is intended to wrap up many of the burning questions, but also open up a lot more if a Season 2 is in the cards.
While speaking to reporters at Wondercon, executive producers Jennifer Johnson and Daniel Pyne revealed what they have in store and say they’re in the dark as to whether Fox is going to renew the show for a Season 2.
“The last episode is all about Tommy Madsen,” says Pyne. “We focus on the guy we started with so you feel closure to the story. But we’re going to open the wardens door and find out what is in that secret room and it’s going to open up a hundred more questions.”
Johnson adds that the season finale reveal will also allow “our characters to download information and consequently start focusing on what [the prisoners] are back for,” says Johnson. “It’s a whole new landscape and opens up a whole other frontier.”
And most important, we get to understand what this Master Plan is … or do we?
“If Warden James [Jonny Coyne] had a master plan, and I’m not saying he has a master plan, it hasn’t gone according to plan,” says Pyne. “What they expected to happen, didn’t happen. So yes, there is a master plan, but it’s been corrupted.”
