At Today’s Summer 2012 TCA The CW Press Tour, The CW President Mark Pedowitz discussed why it was decided to cancel the Sarah Michelle Gellar soap opera RINGER.
“It was a combination of the complexity of the stories, and again, as The CW is an aggregation, it was not performing as well as we hoped on the digital online space and social media space,” says Pedowitz. “That said, the fans are still writing me. They want it desperately. Sarah Michelle and I have had many discussions since May. She’s happily pregnant now. I’m waiting for her to give birth. And the one thing we did come away with, the two of us, is when she’s ready, she would love to come back, and The CW would love to have her at The CW either as an actress or as a producer.”
Pedowitz also felt that the number of episodes also was probably too many for a serialized series.
“The question and one of the things you learn about the level of these serialized shows is less may be more,” says Pedowitz. “22 might have been too many. So if there’s ever a consideration that we do [a serialized show again], we’d probably go anywhere between 6 and 13.”
