Again I have to say WHAT!? After the obvious elimination of Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy on DANCING WITH THE STARS came the shocking, and I mean shocking, elimination of Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd. What is going on with the voters? Do they really want to see someone who has already won win again? C’mon! Give someone else a chance at the mirror ball trophy. Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke who escaped elimination tonight have already won as has Kelly Monaco. She and Val Chmerkovskiy are moving on to the semi finals along with other past winners Apolo Anton Ohno, this time with Karina Smirnoff and Shawn Johnson, now with Derek Hough. So, four of the five couples in the semi finals have ALREADY WON! The only one who hasn’t won before is Melissa Rycroft who, along with Tony Dovolani, has out scored all four of these past champs! C’mon people give it to Rycroft & Dovolani…keep them til’ the end!
Before the disastrous news of Marini’s departure we were treated to a performance by Kylie Minogue and then safe and sound were Rycroft & Dovolani and Johnson & Hough. The cast of Newsies performed the Macy’s Stars of Dance before Ne-Yo took to the stage for an electrifying number, then Alley & Maks Chmerkovskiy were ousted first, leaving Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy safe.
A video of the pressures of the competition preceded the couples choosing fellow duos’ dances and themes for next week. Anna Trebunskaya & Val Chmerkovskiy danced with some performers from the NY City Ballet and then soon after that Smith & Burke were announced safe which left Ohno & Smirnoff and Marini & Murgatroyd alone on the stage.
Marini knew his time was up. He practically walked off the stage before host Tom Bergeron announced his name. Sadly, like Sabrina Bryan, Marini left far too soon. Does everyone want the same old thing? Bryan and Marini should have been the two duking it out in the finals. Instead we have four who have already been there, done that! Give someone else a chance. I implore you to vote for Rycroft & Dovolani and let the past champions go home like all the others before them…empty handed!
Five left…the semi finals are next…stay tuned!
