Well, that was painfully drawn out! DANCING WITH THE STARS: ALL STARS – Season 15 – Week One – The Results went longer than its excruciatingly long title tonight before finally announcing that Pamela Anderson & Tristan MacManus were the first couple to be eliminated. And rightfully so, mind you. Not only did they get the lowest scores last night but also Anderson proved that she didn’t take the competition seriously by making many careless errors in her debut. So, America got it right by ousting the BAYWATCH babe. However, what they didn’t get right is putting season two winner Drew Lachey & Anna Trebunskaya at the bottom with them. Lachey deserved better, but the fans seemed to take a liking to Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson, Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas, and Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, all of whom scored lower than Lachey & Trebunskaya.
With a race this tight this season, the fans are going to pick the winners and losers each week. Helio Castroneves & Chelsie Hightower along with Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy tied Lachey & Trebunskaya for 5th place and yet they lacked the same fan support to keep them from being in the bottom two. Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough made it through early on as did Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff. First, second and third place finishers, Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke, Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd, and Sabrina Bryan & Louis Van Amstel, all heard they were safe but not before an hour long…extremely long…and tedious video shown on and off of why all 13 stars chose to come back. It was unnecessary to have the show be two hours. Any and every thing could have been done in the usual one-hour time slot. Having the show clock in at two hours takes away from the excitement and suspense. You forget who is safe and who is in jeopardy along the way. Emmy winning host Tom Bergeron is there to remind us over and over again who is safe and who is in jeopardy but if he has to remind us whilst we are watching the show doesn’t that say something?
Not even Pitbull who had the audience on their feet waving fluorescent light thingamageegers and Justin Bieber, who is so last year, could keep the show interesting. Just tell us who is it? Who is going home first from the ALL STAR show!? Finally after recap after recap the news came and without so much as a video retrospective of their time together or a request for a last dance Anderson & MacManus were done. My biggest fear for next week – someone other than Palin & Ballas goes home. After all, we are in an election year.
