What a ride! Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani did it! DANCING WITH THE STARS: Season 15 – The All Stars is complete with Rycroft & Dovolani winning the mirror ball trophy, rightly so! They consistently led or stayed close to the top of the leader board week after week, working hard up against champion after champion until finally, they themselves were crowned the champions!
A crazy assortment of dances preceded the crowning of the king and queen of the ballroom with an opening number so convoluted you couldn’t tell who was who on the dance floor. A great perk to the show, however, was showing some outtakes of the couples in confessional and then the redoing of the group dances with booted duos replacing the duos that made the finals. The Gangnam Style dance group replaced finalists Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy with Joey Fatone & Kym Johnson. And the Call Me Maybe dance group replaced Rycroft & Dovolani with Drew Lachey & Anna Trebunskaya while Helio Castroneves & Chelsie Hightower replaced Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough.
Then came the last and final three dances of the night. The three finalists randomly picked either a Cha Cha Cha, a Jive or a Samba to perform earning their final numbers of the competition. Monaco & Chmerkovskiy earned a 28.5 ending their last two nights with an 87.5 out of 90. Johnson & Hough earned a perfect 30, granting them a total of 87 points. Rycroft & Dovolani received a 28.5, completing their two night extravaganza with an 88.5. After the totals were tallied and the fans’ votes were counted it was Monaco & Chmerkovskiy who landed third in the finals and 11th in the competition.
In the last few minutes of the show it was down to Johnson & Hough versus Rycroft & Dovolani. It could have gone either way. Hough is a fan favorite, earning the DWTS title three times with three different partners in the past and Johnson, a winner herself, won in season eight. But, it was Rycroft & Dovolani, neither of whom have ever won, who pulled it off, deservingly so too. The celebration was unanimous and the crowd went wild but no one more so than the couple themselves! What a finale! Next up is Season 16 in spring 2013!
