Part two of DANCING WITH THE STARS: week five didn’t have the flair of part one but less (clothing) might be more in this case. Team Gilles Marini came out swinging in their team dance only to end up taking it all off (almost). Sadly, some technique was lost, not too mention some conformity and timing. But hell, it was fun to watch! I’ll give them that! In the end Team Gilles earned 27 points to add onto their individual scores. There was no elimination tonight. Instead, these total scores will be added to their scores from next week. So everyone’s safe…for another week. And Carrie Ann Inaba stayed safely planted in her seat.
Sabrina Bryan & Louis Van Amstel took the lead with a total of 58.5 out of a possible 60. Second place – with a score of 56.5 – was claimed by Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough, Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff and Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd. Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke landed in third with 56 points. Kirstie Alley & Maks Chmerkovskiy came in fourth with 52.5 and Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy came in fifth with 51.5.
Apolo Anton Ohno (Olympic speed skater) and his partner Karina Smirnoff
Raunchy…but in a good way! Len Goodman said Ohno had great hip action in his Samba. Carrie Ann Inaba thought his legwork was fantastic. Bruno Tonioli said it was terribly sexy.
Scores: Inaba – 8.5, Goodman – 9.5, Tonioli – 9, Harland – 9
Shawn Johnson (Olympic gymnast) and her partner Derek Hough
She had a breakthrough in her performance tonight, reaching a new level of vulnerability for the gymnast. Goodman said her Rumba was not a Rumba. Inaba thought it showed incredible maturity, oh yea and a lift. Tonioli thought it was like waves in the ocean.
Scores: Inaba – 9, Goodman – 8, Tonioli – 10, Harland – 10
Sabrina Bryan (actress) and her partner Louis Van Amstel

Scores: Inaba – 10, Goodman – 9.5, Tonioli – 9.5, Harland – 9
Melissa Rycroft (TV reality star) and her partner Tony Dovolani
Flawless! Goodman thought her Tango was performed excellently. Inaba called it gritty. Tonioli said it was intoxicating.
