Quirky dances fused with an eclectic mix of music gave way to a night of firsts on DANCING WITH THE STARS, not too mention a homage to Michael Jackson’s BAD album – do they still call it that? – as part of the duos’ second dances. Still, it’s clear who should stay and who should go now, but will the fans agree?
Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani absolutely stupefied the audience with an amazing if not the best Argentine Tango ever seen on the show, which earned them a perfect 30. Along with their 27.5 for their Caveman Hustle they secured a second place finish in the semi finals. Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough managed to creep their way back up the leader board earning the highest marks of the night, a 59 out of 60. They, too, received a perfect 30 tonight. Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff, after having a somewhat difficult time with their big top Jazz number nailed it with their Rumba, also garnering them a perfect score tonight, landing them in third place. Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke and Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy tied for fourth place with 54 points.
A double elimination tomorrow guarantees two shocking exits from the show before the season finale in one week. Never before has a season been so dependent on the fans. With their scores nearly all outstanding, it’s the fans who will pick the winners next week. Then we will all finally see who is the most popular, not necessarily the best dancer. Just like the president, only the populist votes don’t get him elected. On DWTS, however, it gets you the mirror ball trophy.
