Like many J.J. Abrams produced TV series, ALCATRAZ is a mystery thriller with several different layers to it. It follows Detective Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones) and comic book store owner and Alcatraz expert Doc (Jorge Garcia) as they try to figure out why former Alcatraz inmates from the 1960s are returning to the present – and haven’t aged a day.
At the heart of this operation is the mysterious Emerson Hauser (Sam Neill) who brings the two newbies into the fold. The Fox series is nearing its first season finale and at Wondercon this weekend, Jones and Garcia spoke to the press and ASSIGNMENT X briefly about the series.
On their own off screen chemistry …
“We’re getting a lot quicker,” says Jones. “And we’re finishing each other’s sentences.”
On playing a different character other than Hurley on LOST …
“It’s fun to be part of another show,” says Garcia. “And you get to start exploring a guy who is a little different.”
On whether the Season 1 finale answers questions …
“You get some answers and there will be more questions of course,” says Jones while Garcia adds, “our characters get more answers and become more included in what’s on behind the curtain. We get to find out what’s going on behind the scenes.”
On what they’d like to see happen if there’s a Season 2 …
For Jones, she’s like to work more with Robert Forster.
“There’s a major opportunity for that in Season 2, considering how this season ends – god, who doesn’t want to watch Robert Forster,” says Jones. “I’m hoping we get to find out more about who Doc is, who Rebecca is and who Hauser is in day to day life.
Garcia chimes in with a laugh, “like what’s in his fridge.”
Jones waits a beat and adds, “don’t you want to know – does he even eat?”
