For those who bemoaned the darker turn CASTLE had taken earlier this season, they have nought to complain about in “Till Death Do Us Part.” It is the final few days before Det. Kevin Ryan’s (Seamus Dever) wedding to Jenny Duffy-O’Malley (played by Seamus Dever’s real-life wife Juliana Dever) and a body has dropped out of a hotel window onto a fruit stand.
Turns out the stiff has two names and lots and lots of lady friends. Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) comes up with his usual crazy theory – funny thing is, for once he may not be that far off the truth (and I’m talking about his early, really wacky theory as opposed to the fourth act wacky theory that actually has some merit). Basically, the vic is a professional pick up artist who gets poisoned, and while everyone works hard at finding out whodunit, it’s really immaterial to the main theme episode – Ryan’s wedding.
Ryan not only has pre-wedding jitters, he and his fiance are doing a “cleanse,” meaning Ryan is drinking a diet fluid instead of eating and getting really cranky as a result. Det. Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas), who recently broke up with medical examiner Lanie Parish (Tamala Jones), finds out that Lanie is bringing a date to Ryan’s wedding. So, naturally, he is rushing to find a date, as well.
Castle was going to bring daughter Alexis (Molly Quinn), but she gets a shot at a hot date at a private concert with Lady Gaga, so all of a sudden he’s on his own, as is Det. Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). That plays into the whole building friendship, easing into the relationship thing which I am liking a lot. It’s not the “will they, won’t they?” tease that only gets annoying after a while.
Oh, and they do find out whodunit a little earlier than usual, but that’s because it’s all about the wedding. Really.
