COPPER on BBC America is a series that has languid moments where you just simply sit and watch the pretty period pictures that go by on the television, and then there are moments where you are jolted forward because something shocking and often times graphic has happened and you are taken completely unawares.

First up in “The Empty Locket”,  Detective Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones) finally gets his wife’s locket back courtesy of Molly (Tanya Fischer) who found it in a pawn shop after an abortionist had hocked it for cash. Molly of course thinks that presenting Corky with the locket will endear her to him, but he’s not really all that interested and is more set on finding out everything he can about the locket to piece together the mystery of his wife’s disappearance.

Dr. Matthew Freeman (Ato Essandoh) and his wife Sara (Tessa Thompson) now not only have a hulking gentle giant of a man living with them, they also have Matthew’s pimp dressed uncle staying with them on his way to Liberia. Uncle Marcus (Peter Bryant) is a slick one, and I’m worried that Sara is going to have to end up killing him to keep him off of her, since he’s been checking her out with wandering eyes since he stepped foot in their home. Lord knows she is not afraid to dispatch someone with a gun, so maybe he should be a bit les lascivious from here on out.

Molly, while still turning tricks and pining for Corky is being courted and proposed to by Detective Maguire (Kevin Ryan) who is going to get her an engagement ring. Which lets be honest, that’s waaaay more than this particular whore should expect or even deserve. But of course this is a romance that will never happen because Molly couldn’t keep her fire crotch closed a few episodes back and now she is making a hasty departure from the series and the cat house at the end of Madame Eva’s (Franka Potente) glistening razor.

Who else sat up when that happened and said, “Holy Sh*t!” I kind of figured once Eva found out about Corky and Molly, she would go in and beat the living hell out of the prozzie, but I had no idea she would out and out SWEENEY TODD her ass. The hair brushing was a nice way to lull Molly and all of us watching into a false sense of security before the big red smile made its appearance, but damn. Now what is Eva going to do next? That hooker is on a mission, and I wonder if she knows more about Corky’s wife and daughter than she is letting on. She’s a female kingpin and she is making moves that I have a feeling are going to be power plays later. In other words, watch your ass Elizabeth Haverford (Anastasia Griffith), because Eva will clearly cut a bitch to keep her man!
