Dance fusion on DANCING WITH THE STARS proved to be less a challenge than most would have thought. The couples rallied, accepting the challenge and matching some previously high marks for their individual routines. But it was Shawn Johnson who along with Mark Ballas (partner Derek Hough was injured last week and was unable to perform this week) who nailed a perfect 30 tonight with her Tango/Paso Doble. Right behind them were Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani with 29 and then Gilles Marini & Peta Murgatroyd with 28.5. Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke received a 27.5 while Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff and Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy earned a 27. Kirstie Alley & Maks Chmerkovskiy earned a 24 for their fusion number.
But the night was far from over. The couples still had a Swing Dance Marathon to compete in. All seven couples danced on the floor at the same time and one by one they got plucked off the floor receiving the most points the longer they stayed. The points added to those scores turned the tables on the leader board a bit for the couples. Rycroft & Dovolani won the marathon and quickly pulled into first place with 39 points. Johnson, with Ballas, came in second with a total of 38 points. Monaco & V. Chmerkovskiy came in third with 36 points. Smith & Burke came in fourth with 34.5 while Marini & Murgatroyd came in fifth with 33.5. Ohno & Smirnoff landed in sixth with 33 points and Alley and M. Chmerkovskiy are in seventh with 28 total points. All of these points will be added to next week’s scores because of the election this week. So, no one will be eliminated, however, two couples will be eliminated next week.
