So before DOCTOR WHO returned to air waves last weekend, there has been a five part web series called “Pond Life” that is a sort of catching up on the Doctor (Matt Smith) and the Ponds since we last saw them. Of course, there is a whole contingency of fans out there that are not so fond of Amy (Karen Gillan), Rory (Arthur Darvill) and especially their daughter River Song (Alex Kingston). I am NOT of that camp, and thoroughly enjoyed last series of DOCTOR WHO, so “Pond Life” was something I was looking forward to just to see the Ponds again.
Each segment is roughly a minute and a half long, so the whole thing is really only seven and a half minutes of content, but the writer and director manage to squeeze in all kinds of quick clips and moments both of the Doctor and the Ponds at home.
It’s interesting to see the Doctor keeping up with former companions in this manner. Sure, he’s their son-in-law, but he’s never really looked back once he deposits a companion somewhere and takes off. I guess this is a testament to home much he really cares about them.
There are some great comedic bits with the Doctor, and we finally get to see him replace the bulb on the top of the TARDIS … which is kind of awesome and funny.
The Ponds themselves work as the straight men mostly to the Doctor’s frenetic comedy styling and it’s only at the end that things get serious.
Favorite things about this web series:
1. An Ood on the Loo.
2. Rory’s lunchbox with Centurions on it
3. Amy the Banger stealer
4. Mata Hari
5. Coffee MMMMMMMMMMMM
Just a fun well done little web series that every WHO fan should watch even if they’ve already seen the Series 7 premiere “Asylum of the Daleks”. There’s also a US exclusive prequel to the premiere on I Tunes and Amazon.com featuring the Doctor getting a telepathic signal telling him to go to Skaro. That one is short as well but features Dalek operator Barnaby Edwards as a hooded figure delivering the message!
