“Lady Lazarus” is a good episode for all of the MAD MEN Megan (Jessica Pare) haters out there.  Clearly we weren’t meant to be kept in suspense as to what her father last episode was referencing when he asked her not to give up on her dream. Megan wants to be an actress. So in this episode she walks away from a lucrative career in advertising to make her way on the Great White Way. That should be plenty of fuel right there for all of the Megan naysayers!

My thought is that now Megan and Don (John Hamm) aren’t going to be spending every waking moment together, this opens the door for Don to start stepping out on his baby … again. Clearly he’s a man that out of sight out of mind applies to. I figure with him not seeing Megan all of the time and controlling her like a marionette, he’s going to find other things to occupy his time, and by other things I mean dirty-legged hookers with want to take a ride on the Draper Express.

Evidently this is something that fans (and by fans I’m pretty sure just straight white older men) are clamoring for. They want Don to return to how he was. Misogynistic, pompous, arrogant, and with the morals of prison inmate who has been clubbed in the head a bit too much during shower time. It says something about the fan base of the show that idolizes the old Don Draper as more of a hero to them, than the new Don.

I’m sure in some parts of the country there are still good ole’ boy cities (or hell, let’s call them what they are…towns) where men still get away with treating women like second class citizens who are there to serve them. AWESOME role model guys. Really something you want to aspire to be. Of course, now if you slut around with lots of loose women you just might come home with something really interesting that makes you pee green. Not the 1960’s anymore kids. This section of the fan base makes me sad.

So anywho, back to MAD MEN. Also this week we are treated to Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser) bagging another man’s wife. Again. Pete hooks up with Beth Dawes (Alexis Bledel) after finding her without her keys in the parking lot of the train station. If you had any shred of GILMORE GIRLS innocence left for Alexis it’s gone now that she’s been had on the living floor by Conner from ANGEL. Gag. Pete is such a sleaze. But I did notice in his discussion with Beth’s husband on the train there was a mention of a suicide clause in his life insurance. PLEASE LET HIM DIE. Then there is the scene of Don and open malfunctioning elevator. I can’t help but think all of these things mean something.

Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) gets kind of shafted in this episode when she is caught between Don and Megan, but she’s tough, she’s a harbor chick. She’ll bounce back. I have no doubts she will one day be running the ad firm.
