It’s “7:15 A.M.” in Storybrooke, and Mary Margaret Blanchard (Ginnifer Goodwin) is off to get coffee at the diner where David Nolan (Josh Dallas) is getting coffee for himself and his wife Kathryn (Anastasia Griffith). Oh, and there’s a stranger (Eion Bailey) in town, with a strange wood box. There’s also the fairy tale world, in ONCE UPON A TIME, from whence all these people came when The Evil Queen (Lana Parilla) unleashed a terrible curse that sent them to the modern world, where they don’t know who they originally were. For example, Mary Margaret Blanchard has no clue that she’s Snow White.
Except that she and David have this incredible attachment. Well, surprise. David is the modern counterpart to Prince James (or Charming) in the fairy tale world, where his marriage to Abigail, King Midas’ daughter, is proceeding apace. The problem is, James has the hots for Snow White, who loves him just as much. We know that James and Snow get together because they’re the parents of Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), who got to the modern world via a different route than the curse. It’s just that Snow made a deal with Rumpelstiltskin, a forgetting potion for one of her hairs (gotta wonder about that one….) just in case James isn’t that in love with her.
But Snow gets captured first, and in the dungeon with Grumpy (Lee Arenburg), she learns a little of his story – love is why he’s so grumpy. The two are rescued by Stealthy (Geoff Gustafson), but there’s a reason we’ve never heard about him. He doesn’t make it out alive.
In the modern world, Kathryn (aka Abigail) thinks she’s pregnant and Mary Margaret finds out. Also, Regina (aka The Evil Queen) spots the stranger talking with Henry and it seems the stranger really likes Henry. So Regina pushes Emma to check him out. He’s up to something, but the wooden box may or may not be part of it. All it carries is an old typewriter.
As an episode, this is another one where a little bit of information is doled out, but not enough to feel like we’re getting anywhere – and believe me, if we don’t start getting some answers soon, I expect the attrition rate on this show to be rather high. Still, we have yet another little hint at the end that Regina’s power is weakening. Now we just need something to actually happen.
