Remember that picture Lydia (Amber Valleta) found that had a long-haired Emily (Emily VanCamp) serving at a New Year’s Eve party? In “Legacy,” we get to see how that picture happened and what sets Emily (well, Amanda Clarke at that point) on her quest for REVENGE.
It’s 2002 and Nolan (Gabriel Mann) is pulling Amanda out of a club. As it turns out, Amanda is a mess and hasn’t read her father’s journals that Nolan provided for her after she got out of jail. Except that she finally reads them and decides to check things out in Montauk. Jack (Nick Wechsler) has a girlfriend. Amanda breaks into her old house to look around, and then agrees to serve at the Grayson’s New Year’s Eve party.
Of course, everybody involved in the framing of David Clarke is there and we even get a flashback within a flashback, in which we see David (James Tupper) meet the Graysons for the first time, presumably shortly after they bought the house there.
Is it just me or has anyone else wondered what the heck everybody is doing out at the Hamptons in the middle of winter? As I recall (and never having been there, I don’t know) that area is populated in the summer and everyone moves back to the city during the winter.
Anyway, Roger Halstead knows the truth, but, gee, he gets killed and Amanda, who was starting to befriend the guy, gets more than a little peeved. Okay, she vows revenge. We also see how Lydia and her eventual ex decide to buy the house next door. Turns out it was owned by the Graysons.
Truth be told, there isn’t a lot that happens. There’s a lot of talk about what David Clarke did. A lot of Amanda in a dark wig with Emily VanCamp’s standard angry brooding look. There’s not a lot that actually advances the overall plot, but presumably it’s an important episode to have on the brain in light of next week’s “gripping” season finale. Nor is it a bad episode. In fact, it’s reasonably interesting. It’s just that when you think about what actually happened, you realize, not much.
About the only other note of interest is that Gabriel Mann looks a lot better without that ghastly Bieber cut he’s sporting as Nolan in modern times. Now, are we ready for all you-know-what to break loose next week?
