THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is making the storyline involving Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and his original vampire family at least interesting to watch. I was concerned initially at the start of the season when they brought Klaus back. Bringing back a villain from a previous season seemed weak sauce compared to how they had leveled up between prior seasons of the show. However, I have been pleasantly surprised with all of the twists and turns that have been thrown at the audience involving the original vamps, and this latest episode “Dangerous Liaisons” is no exception.
So now that Klaus and company’s mom, Esther (Alice Evans) is back in the land of the living there has to be a part, and not just any party, but a party on such a scale that it dwarfs even the “Founder’s Day Festivals”. The mansion that they shot this in is breathtaking and I kind of wonder where in Mystic Falls this place was hiding this whole time. Honestly, I didn’t think there would be a house swankier than the Lockwood Estate. I guess this mansion is the same kind of thing that happened on BUFFY Season 2 when Angelus (David Boreanaz) and company set up shop in a hitherto unknown mansion in Sunnydale.
The costumes in this episode are as breathtaking as the house and both Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline (Candice Accola) get amazing gowns. I honestly don’t think that they’ve gotten to wear gowns quite this elaborate thus far on the series.
There are some very choice moments in this episode. When Elena enters the party and is led in by both Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). Then there’s a great scene where Caroline is dancing with Klaus and she reminds him that she is after all, Miss Mystic Falls. Which is pretty much what I always say when she is undergoing some kind of horrific scene in an episode.
Speaking of Klaus isn’t it nice to see a softer side of Sears? Of course, you realize that he’s being humanized just so we feel bad when he finally gets killed off. And then there’s always my favorite Elijah (Daniel Gillies) who is now linked to Klaus and if one dies the entire brood of original vamps die. I hate to see Elijah go. He’s been one of my favorite anti-hero characters on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES.
And while on that subject, look out folks Damon is back to being bad. Not only does he cause a huge scene at the party (even though it saved a life), then he goes and hooks up with Rebekah (Claire Holt). Even though she looks amazing in the party scene, she’s still a beat old ho, but at least now she can say that she’s had both of the Salvatore brothers. I’m guessing vampires can’t get STDS?
