You might think that the title of the latest episode of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, “The Killer” would be a nod to Mystic Falls’ resident vampire hunter Connor Jordan (Todd Williams), but I really feel that it is referring to the killer inside of Elena (Nina Dobrev) that breaks the surface in this episode and shows us all just how close to coming apart she really is.
I love and hate that Elena is a vampire now. I’m glad she’s no longer the fragile human that has to be protected by Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) every single time something supernatural comes a callin’. But now that she’s a vamp she seems really fragile emotionally and mentally. Her transition has not been an easy one, and I feel like she is right back where she started in season one (even writing in her diary again, but after all the show is called THE VAMPIRE DIARIES) with the level of breakability that everyone is treating her with.
I kinda figured if she killed Connor that the tattoo would transfer to Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), but now the question is how much of it is on him, and how are they going to offer up vamps for him to kill to make it manifest completely and show them the way to the cure for vampirism?
Speaking of Jeremy, I still feel that he and Matt (Zach Roerig) have substantial on-screen chemistry. I’m betting that if I search the ‘net there’s some fan slash out there about the two of them hooking up. I don’t know why, but they just click on screen, and it feels like more than a bromance. Maybe they can realize that they’ve been in love this whole time, buy the Mystic Grill, and keep it just like ROOTS.
So then we also have Damon suddenly in on the secret that Stefan has been hiding, and why he’s working with Klaus (Joseph Morgan), the cure for vampirism. My big question is if a vampire that’s been a vamp for a long time takes the cure, does their real age catch up to them and they just fall apart to bones and sludge or dust? I feel like this ‘cure’ won’t be all it’s cracked up to be, and there’s going to be some pitfalls to it. Oh yeah, and meanwhile Klaus has desecrated a grave in Europe and gotten the sword that’s the key to deciphering the whole map tattoo thingee.
Meanwhile over in the witchy side of things, Bonnie (Kat Graham) is loving up on a university professor named Shane (David Alpay), and while he might have genuine feelings for her (which is completely inappropriate for a grad teacher to want a relationship with a high school girl) he’s the guy behind the vampire hunter sent to Mystic falls in the first place. Who knows what dark designs he has up his sleeves?
