William Stryker in X-MEN 2, King Agamemnon in TROY and Russian spy Ivan Simonov in the RED films, plus and BBC executive Sydney Newman in the telefilm AN ADVENTURE IN SPACE AND TIME (about the early years of DOCTOR WHO). Doyle Director: Milan Cheylov Network: Airs on ABC, Tuesdays @ 9 p.m. Original Telecast: Nov. 18, 2014 There was a lot of moving parts on this week’s MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD. After last week’s really poor episode, I wasn’t sure if we were ready to take another nose dive on this show or if it was a one-time thing. Luckily, “The Things We Bury” really did a great job of righting the ship in the […]Read On »

TV Review: CONSTANTINE – Season 1 – “A Feast of Friends”

Matt Ryan as John Constantine in CONSTANTINE "A Feast of Friends" | © 2014 Tina Rowden/NBC

Cast: Matt Ryan, Angelica Celaya, Charles Halford, Harold Perrineau, Michael James Shaw, Emmett J Scanlan Writer: Cameron Welsh Director: John F. Showalter Network: Airs on NBC, Fridays @ 10p.m. Original Telecast: Nov. 14, 2014 This was a brutal episode of CONSTANTINE. And that’s a good thing. From start to finish this was, by far, the ugliest and horrific demon that John Constantine (Matt Ryan) has had to face so far on the NBC show. “A Feast of Friends” is a fitting title because it goes to the core of what the episode was about. A former black arts student of […]Read On »

In Season 2 of MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD, ABC Tuesdays at 9 PM, there’s some new kind of havoc around every corner. Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, was resurrected after his big-screen death in MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, and is now running the beleaguered S.H.I.E.L.D. It turned out that one of Coulson’s trusted agents, Grant Ward, played by Brett Dalton, was really part of the fascistic Hydra organization. Worse, Ward has just escaped, but he remains entranced by Skye, played by Chloe Bennet. Skye is Bennet’s first regular series role. When we met her character at the beginning of SHIELD’s […]Read On »

SUPERNATURAL guest star Rob Benedict has a God complex – Exclusive Interview

Rob Benedict as Chuck and Jared Padalecki as Sam in SUPERNATURAL - "The Real Ghostbusters" | ©2009 The CW/David Gray

On SUPERNATURAL, now in its tenth(!) season on the CW, Tuesdays at 9 PM, a lot of weird stuff happens as brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) continue to hunt monsters and grapple with demons, angels and you-name-its. However, one of the stranger things within this strange universe, created by Eric Kripke, was the character of Chuck Shurley, pen name Carver Edlund, played by Rob Benedict. Chuck, albeit a nerd, was a Prophet of the Lord, who actually foresaw the adventures of the Winchesters, which he wrote as novels, which developed a cult following – within the […]Read On »

Blu-ray Review: SQUIRM COLLECTOR’S EDITION

SQURIM Collector's Edition Blu-ray | ©2014 Shout! Factory

Stars: Don Scardino, Patricia Pearcy, R.A. Dow, Jean Sullivan Writer-Director: Jeff Lieberman Distributor: Shout! Factory Suggested Retail Price: $29.93 SQUIRM is a 1976 nature run amok film that sported excellent poster art that made it feel like a gloriously gory Italian giallo film, but proved to be something completely different – a Southern character study populated by bloodthirsty worms. Shout! Factory has revisited the film with another excellent Blu-ray with a superb new transfer and solid special features. Modern audiences may be a bit letdown with the pacing and cheats SQUIRM employs. After all, we’re in the era of computer […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “Fan Fiction”

Rachel Warkentin in SUPERNATURAL - Season 10 - "Fan Fiction" | ©2014 The CW/Katie Yu

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Katie Sarife, Joy Regullano, Alyssa Lynch, Rob Benedict Writer: Robbie Thompson, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Phil Sgriccia Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: November 11, 2014 This reviewer is not often moved to tears, either of hilarity or emotion, nor does she often give out the grade of A. However, in the case of SUPERNATURAL’s two-hundredth episode, “Fan Fiction,” the first occurred and the second is warranted. Written by Robbie Thompson and directed by Phil Sgriccia, what could have easily gone off the rails at every turn is instead hysterically […]Read On »
