SUPERNATURAL embarks on its fifteenth and final season on The CW on Thursday, October 10. The series, created by Eric Kripke, started with the relatively modest premise of the Winchester brothers, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), fighting monsters and ghosts throughout the U.S. (even though the show is actually shot in Vancouver). As the seasons unspooled, though, the mythology got progressively more dense, until the Winchesters were actually tangling with Lucifer (mostly Mark Pellegrino, though other actors have embodied the fallen angel as well) and even God (Rob Benedict). At the end of Season 12, in May 2017, […]Read On »

THE HANDMAID’S TALE: Joseph Fiennes on playing one of the architects of Gilead – Exclusive Interview

Joseph Fiennes in THE HANDMAID'S TALE - Season 2 - "Postpartum" | ©2019 Hulu/George Kraychy

THE HANDMAID’S TALE, the multi-Emmy-winning adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s novel, now has three seasons streaming on Hulu, and has been renewed for a fourth. In the near future of THE HANDMAID’S TALE, human fertility is on the wane, and much of the United States has been overtaken by the totalitarian fundamentalist government of Gilead. In Gilead, women have virtually no rights. Wives have status, but if they are infertile (and most are), the household brings in a “handmaid” to be impregnated by the husband in a ceremony that involves both of the women. THE HANDMAID’S TALE is seen largely through […]Read On »

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Richard Speight Jr., David Haydn-Jones, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Magda Apanowicz, Ivan Wanis-Ruiz, Tiffany Smith Writer: Davy Perez, series created by Eric Kripke Director: John F. Showalter Network: The CW, Thursdays @ 8 PM Original Airdate: April 5, 2018  The SUPERNATURAL episode “The Thing” is actually less like THE THING than it is a riff on H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. It ties in nicely to the scavenger hunt for rift-opening objects that’s been running through much of Season 13 and, bonus, we get Archangel Gabriel (Richard Speight Jr.) back, who has been a wonderfully fun character […]Read On »

Aldis Hodge is Decourcy Ward in CITY ON A HILL - Season 1 | ©2019 Showtime/Eric Ogden

The title of Showtime’s new Sunday-night series CITY ON A HILL refers to early ‘90s Boston. “The irony abounds,” as several characters might say. Despite its lofty physical setting, the Boston of CITY ON A HILL is rife with racism, corruption and crime. Aldis Hodge plays Assistant District Attorney DeCourcy Ward, who’s just arrived from Brooklyn. By the end of the first episode, Ward has been so manipulated by both the Boston police and his own office that he’s willing to do just about anything to avoid further abuse. Ward joins forces with crooked FBI agent Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon) […]Read On »

Movie Review: DARK PHOENIX

DARK PHOENIX poster | ©2019 20th Century Fox

Rating: PG-13 Stars: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Sophie Turner, Nicholas Hoult, Jessica Chastain, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee Writer: Simon Kinberg Director: Simon Kinberg Distributor: 20th Century Fox Release Date: June 7, 2019 DARK PHOENIX is okay. If that sounds like less than a ringing endorsement, this is because the movie doesn’t hum with the invention and joy of the best X-MEN movies. On the other hand, it’s clear and coherent, takes on a few issues previously unmentioned in the film series, and has some action sequences that work very well. Apart from THE WOLVERINE […]Read On »
