Blu-ray Review: CARS 2

CARS 2 Blu-ray | ©2011 Walt Disney Home Entertainment

Voices: Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer Writer: Ben Queen Director: John Lasseter Distributor: Walt Disney Home Entertainment Suggested Retail Price: $39.99 I’ve never been more disappointed in a Pixar film than I was with CARS 2 – an abomination if there ever was one with the Pixar organization whose batting average has been impeccable since TOY STORY. Even when the movies have been just okay (THE INCREDIBLES, RATATOUILLE), they’ve still had some value and some great humor/animation thrown into the mix. Even the brilliant TOY STORY 3 shouldn’t have worked, but the Pixar team found […]Read On »

Many have dipped into the Bram Stoker well in re-inventing the classic   fable, but now giallo master Dario Argento is taking his bite out of the vampire legend with his latest film – DRACULA 3D The film, shot in stereoscopic 3D, was teased to potential AMERICAN FILM MARKET buyers this year with a 30-minute show reel, and it definitely created a large amount of buzz at the 2011 event. With a look and feel of the old Hammer Films, this DRACULA features many of Argento’s stables – hardcore gore, sexy femmes and an unmistakable shooting style. Producer Roberto Di […]Read On »

Profile: Topher Grace sees THE DOUBLE

Topher Grace in THE DOUBLE | ©2011 Image Entertainment

In the new thriller THE DOUBLE, Topher Grace plays Ben Geary, a young FBI agent who is assigned to his dream case, tracking down the Russian assassin known only as Cassius. Ben is teamed with former CIA operative Paul Shepherdson, played by Richard Gere, who has been reluctantly dragged back into the field due to his expertise in this matter. Family man Ben and loner Paul would seem to be polar opposites, but they turn out to have a few things in common. Grace, a New Yorker by birth, got his feature film start in Steven Soderbergh’s TRAFFIC, then went […]Read On »

Exclusive Photos from the IN TIME Los Angeles Premiere

Regency Enterprises celebrated the Los Angeles Premiere of IN TIME, October 20th at the Regency Village Theater in Westwood. The concept makes me think of the 1976 film LOGAN’S RUN, which starred Michael York and Jenny Agutter where life ended at 30 in the Carousel. In IN TIME, people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year. But if you have the money you can buy your way out of the situation and have a shot at immortal youth. Fans lined the street and screamed as the stars of the film arrived in what looked […]Read On »

DreamWorks Animation held the Los Angeles Premiere of PUSS IN BOOTS on October 23rd at the Regency Theater in Westwood. Closing the street where the theater is located, the “beige” carpet, had backdrops that looked like sets from the film. Costumed PUSS IN BOOTS and Kitty Softpaws walked the carpet, plus before the premiere started Spanish dancers came down the carpet. Fans lined the street to see the stars and guests that attended this early Sunday morning premiere. Seen walking the carpet were the stars of the film, which included: Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton, Amy […]Read On »

Blu-Ray Review: ZOMBIE – 2-DISC ULTIMATE EDITION

ZOMBIE - ULTIMATE EDITION | © 2011 Blue Underground

Rating: Unrated Stars: Tisa Farrow, Ian McCulloch, Richard Johnson, Al Oliver, Auretta Gay, Olga Karalatos Writer: Elisa Briganti Director: Lucio Fulci Suggested Retail Price: $39.98 For being such a big horror fan, I have to admit I came a little late to the party in my appreciation of Italian horror master director Lucio Fulci. I knew of his movies, seen pieces of them, but never really sat down to fully embrace the filmmaker’s offbeat sensibilities and knack for unrelentingly disturbing gore. When it came to Fulci’s 1980 ZOMBIE, it was one of those films I completely overlooked it. In fact, […]Read On »

Profile: TRUE BLOOD star Stephen Moyer on THE DOUBLE trouble

Stephen Moyer in THE DOUBLE | ©2011 Image Entertainment

In THE DOUBLE, Richard Gere plays former CIA agent Paul Shepherdson, who is dragged back into the field when it looks like the presumed-dead Russian agent he was chasing has resurfaced to kill again. Topher Grace plays Ben Geary, an FBI agent who partners with Paul. Among the people they talk to is Stephen Moyer’s Brutus, an imprisoned KGB assassin who reveres the man the other two are seeking. Moyer, who speaks with his native English accent when not playing characters who hail from elsewhere, speaks with great affection about his best-known character, TRUE BLOOD’s gentlemanly Louisiana vampire Bill Compton. Movie Review: IN TIME

IN TIME movie poster | ©2011 20th Century Fox

Rating: PG-13 Stars: Amanda Seyfried, Justin Timberlake, Cillian Murphy, Vincent Kartheiser, Alex Pettyfer, Olivia Wilde, Matt Bomer, Johnny Galecki Writer: Andrew Niccol Director: Andrew Niccol Distributor: 20th Century Fox Release Date: October 28, 2011 On the upside, IN TIME has a great premise and its, well, timing couldn’t be better, what with its heartfelt sentiments that the super-rich are draining life from the poor hitting the screen right as Occupy Wall Street is in the streets. On the downside, director/writer/producer Andrew Niccol is so intent on his message that he sidesteps a lot of the potential inherent in his science […]Read On »

PUSS IN BOOTS movie poster | ©2011 Dreamworks Animation/Paramount Pictures

Rating: PG Stars (voices): Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton, Amy Sedaris, Constance Marie Writers: David H. Steinberg, Tom Wheeler, Jon Zack, Brian Lynch, based on the story by Charles Perrault Director: Chris Miller Distributor: Paramount/DreamWorks Animation Release Date: October 28, 2011 PUSS IN BOOTS is aimed squarely at everyone who grinned when Antonio Banderas turned up as the voice of the Zorro-like cat in SHREK 2 and stuck around for the sequels. PUSS is actually a prequel to SHREK et al, providing a back story for its furry orange hero. Although the new movie borrows a […]Read On »
