Russell T. Davies, the man most directly responsible for the resurrection of the DOCTOR WHO franchise in 2005, was on hand at the Television Critic’s Association to promote his upcoming fourth season of TORCHWOOD, also a WHO connected show. And, of course, ASSIGNMENT X couldn’t resist asking his thoughts on the new DOCTOR WHO series post his exit. “Of course I love it! Stephen Moffat’s most important role is to get me a DVD before that Saturday of transmission,” says Davies. “This new season it’s going to go out on BBC America on the same day, but I still want […]Read On »

David Tennant as the Doctor in DOCTOR WHO - “The Christmas Invasion” | © BBC

American fans of DOCTOR WHO rejoice! At long last, after so many years of being second-class citizens, we are about to achieve synchronicity with our UK cousins. For the first time ever (well, except for that one time in 1983 when we got the 20th anniversary special first, but never mind), American WHO viewers will be seeing this year’s brand-new Christmas special on exactly the same day as those watching it in the UK. On December 25, 2010, BBC One and BBC America bridge the temporal gap between US and UK WHO fans, and it surely is about time! While […]Read On »

CD Review: DOCTOR WHO: SERIES 4 – THE SPECIALS – original soundtrack

© 2010 Silva Screen Records | DR. WHO HOLIDAY SPECIAL SOUNDTRACK

Whether it’s Halloween or Xmas, TV has loved to celebrate the holidays with special episodes, but it’s doubtful any of them have sounded cooler than when the usually agnostic Time Lord (in the series 4 personages of David Tennant, David Morrissey and Martin Smith) has decided to make the Yuletide gay. It’s also a great occasion for the always creative DOCTOR WHO composer Murray Gold to unleash the musical bells and whistles for this two-CD compilation that includes “The Next Doctor,” “Planet of the Dead,” “The Waters of Mars” and “The End of Time.” There are certain musical signatures you […]Read On »

© 2010 PBS | Benedict Cumberbatch in MASTERPIECE MYSTERY: SHERLOCK

It seems everybody has taken a turn at depicting Arthur Conan Doyle’s proto-detective Sherlock Holmes. Steven Moffat, who recently worked on the screenplay for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming feature THE ADVENTURES OF TIN-TIN, and Mark Gatiss, both currently on the BBC’s DOCTOR WHO starring Matt Smith, have brought Holmes into the twenty-first century while remaining true to the spirit of the original with their new three-part BBC/PBS series SHERLOCK, starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, with Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson. The show is already a hit in England and just finished up its run on the network’s MASTERPIECE MYSTERY […]Read On »
