The 2015 L.A. Film Festival: Part 1 – The Entertainer

NOTE: As a film festival draws to a close I usually try to talk up as many films as possible. This year I’m trying something different, just three films, a horror comedy (THE FINAL GIRLS), a documentary (CAN YOU DIG THIS) and a teen comedy/drama (SEOUL SEARCHING). They have little to nothing in common but collectively speak to the state of indie film circa 2015. “How great is this theater?” director Todd Strauss-Schulson yelled while introducing his film THE FINAL GIRLS in the mammoth Premiere House theater of the Regal LA Live Stadium 14. “Feel free to laugh, yell, scream and just […]Read On »

In Fox’s miniseries WAYWARD PINES, Thursdays at 9 PM, Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) is understandably upset. Not only is he trapped in the title town, where people are executed over transgressions like referring to their lives pre-arrival, but he finds his partner/ex-lover Kate Hewson (Carla Gugino) claiming she’s lived here for twelve years, even though she’s only been missing a few weeks. Morever, Kate says she’s been married for years to local toymaker Harold Balinger, played by Reed Diamond. Native New Yorker Diamond is no stranger to television or to genre. He was one of the starring […]Read On »

Other significant projects have included starring in five seasons of HBO’s BIG LOVE, as famous feuder Randall McCoy in History Channel’s HATFIELDS & McCOYS, a co-starring […]Read On »

GOOD KILL: Bruce Greenwood goes to drone warfare – Exclusive Interview

GOOD KILL | ©2015 IFC Films

He’s been JFK facing off against Russia, played a President holding onto a Book of Secrets, embodied the best of The Federation as Commander Christopher Pike and even voiced Batman. Because when it comes to embodying brave politicians and sternly noble authority figures, few actors carry the intelligent, often patriotic gravitas of the Canadian-born Bruce Greenwood. Possessed of a sonorous voice and chiseled looks, Greenwood has certainly played a myriad of roles in a nearly four-decade career that’s ranged from ST. ELSEWHERE’s Dr. Seth Griffin to TV’s identity-erased NOWHERE MAN as well as an inner-earth astronaut exploring “The Core” and […]Read On »

Interview: Composer Geoff Zanneli helps pulls off a shagedlically artistocract art heist with MORTDECAI

MORTDECAI | ©2015 Lionsgate

There’s no doubt that the O.G. masters of movie score Shagadelia knew they were being funny back in the ultra-60s day when Burt Bacharach had various James Bonds bouncing to the Tijuana Brass, or Charles Fox and Bob Crewe were disrobing Barbarella from her space suit to the strains of a female chorus and a funk guitar. Now with the groovy one-two punch of George S. Clinton and David Holmes making already-hip retro rhythms cool again for Austin Powers’ wacky spy jazz and the rocking organ-guitar grooves of twelve con artists pulling a big Vegas rip-off, everything old is […]Read On »

Jackson) did make Coulson the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. at the end of last season, but not before bringing Coulson back from the dead with alien DNA. This season, Coulson has had to cope with the alien DNA causing him to uncontrollably draw maps that turned out to lead to an alien-built city. One of his agents, protégé Skye (Chloe Bennet), turns out to have her […]Read On »
