TCA 2011: Simon Cowell is convinced his new THE X FACTOR show can beat AMERICAN IDOL

Even though Simon Cowell’s new singing competition series THE X FACTOR airs on Fox in the fall while AMERICAN IDOL (which he used to be on) airs in the Spring, he admitted today at a Summer 2011 Television Critics Association session that he still has the desire to beat IDOL. “You don’t enter something going for the silver medal,” says Cowell who managed to beat POP IDOL in the U.K. with THE X FACTOR previously. “You do it because you want to be number one. TCA 2011: Fox addresses recent GLEE controversy, spin-off status and Season 3

With GLEE entering Season 3, controversy has dogged the Fox show in the last few weeks. Some of it stems with co-creator Ryan Murphy talking about writing three of the show’s primary leads off the show (Chris Colfer, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith) at the end of this season by having them graduating, but failing to mention he was quietly developing a spin-off for them. TCA 2011: Fox talks about the greenlight of COSMOS: A SPACE-TIME ODYSSEY

The last thing anyone would expect the Fox network to do would be a documentary sequel to the hit 1980s PBS/Carl Sagan hosted and produced documentary science series COSMOS, but it’s official – they’ve greenlit it. Titled COSMOS: A SPACE-TIME ODYSSEY, the series will surprisingly be produced by FAMILY GUY creator Seth MacFarlane. When is a show cancelled, but not cancelled? That’s been the mystery behind the Christian Slater comedy BREAKING IN that did pretty good during midseason this year on Fox after AMERICAN IDOL. It wasn’t enough for it to get an official Season 2 renewal, but in recent months, there’s been movement that could bring the series back. With Zack Snyder directing and Christopher Nolan producing, excitement for the new Superman movie reboot MAN OF STEEL couldn’t be higher. Then, Warner Bros. sneaks this first look of actor Henry Cavill as Superman, and well, it’s pretty freakin’ cool. The ghost of Christopher Reeve and near lookalike Brandon Routh is giving way for a more modern caped crusader.
