DeKnight Director: Brendan Mehr   Network: STARZ, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: February 10, 2012 The last two episodes of SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE have moved kind of slowly. Yes, there has been plenty of violence and sex, but without a main storyline of action to move them; it just becomes an explicitly painted canvas to look at. Now with “The Greater Good” the storyline jumps into overdrive and ends with what could easily be classified as a cliffhanger. The season gets more […]Read On »

SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE, which premieres tonight on Starz at 10 PM, is actually the second season of the SPARTACUS series, even though it’s the third year of the show. Series creator and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight understands how this might cause some head-scratching. In 2010’s SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND, Andy Whitfield starred as the famous historical figure. The season followed him through his early days of being enslaved, being trained as a gladiator and finally leading a revolt at the Ludus (gladiator training camp) that left its owner Batiatus (John Hannah) definitively dead and Batiatus’ pregnant wife Lucretia, played by […]Read On »

It’s always tough to hear about the passing of an actor from a beloved TV series or movie, but when that person is as young as Andy Whitfield, it makes things all the more tragic. The 39-year old actor best known for playing Spartacus in the hit Starz series SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma cancer 18 months ago which delayed the start of Season 2 of the series. He went through treatment, but it went into remission and returned. Ultimately, he lost this battle and passed away on Sunday in his home of Sydney, Australia leaving […]Read On »

TCA 2011: SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE will be “epic” says creator Steven S. DeKnight

Season 2 of SPARTACUS (dubbed SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE) is a half a year away from debuting, but creator and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight says the new season will outdo things that have already been seen in BLOOD & SAND and GODS OF THE ARENA. Part of this stems from the show getting out of the gladiator arena and sending the slaves on the run. “It’s exponentially more difficult and gigantic,” says DeKnight while speaking at today’s 2011 TCA session for Starz. “I ship the scripts off to [producer] Robert Tapert and dump a huge problem on his table. I’m always […]Read On »
