GOTHAM, Fox Network’s drama about the journey of young Bruce Wayne (played by David Mazouz) to becoming Batman, is in its fifth and final twelve-episode season on Thursday nights. The series will culminate in an episode that shows Gotham City and its denizens ten years later, when Batman finally comes into his own, as do his enemies. Most of the major cast and creatives do a Q&A panel for the Television Critics Association press tour, and then everybody starts hugging each other. From all evidence, it seems like they’ve all loved their time on the show, their characters and one […]Read On »

S.W.A.T.: Executive producer Shawn Ryan on new reboot – Interview

Although it shares the same name as its 1975 predecessor (and the 2003 feature film), CBS’ Thursday night drama SWAT is largely a new endeavor. While the Special Weapons and Tactics squad is still named Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson and we still hear Barry De Vorzon’s indelible theme music, this SWAT is a much more grounded take on the heavily armed crisis division of the police department. Set in and around South Central Los Angeles, the new SWAT deals extensively not only with police response to violent crime, but also the strained relationship between the department and the often mistrustful community […]Read On »

On Fox’s GOTHAM, Monday nights at 8 PM, we are in DC’s BATMAN universe. However, right now, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) is still a youth who is only beginning to contemplate how he may fight crime in the city of his birth. For now, trying to uphold the law falls to Gotham City police detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), an upright soul in the midst of profound corruption. A prime – albeit likable – example of this corruption can be found right at Gordon’s side in the person of his police partner Harvey Bullock, played by Donal Logue. Harvey has […]Read On »

While speaking at today’s Winter TCA tour in Pasadena, CA, Fox’s THE CHICAGO CODE creator and executive producer Shawn Ryan reveals that the original concept of the show changed dramatically from when the pilot was picked up. “I wanted it to be about more than police officers,” he admits. “It became much more than I originally intended.” The original concept revolved around police officers on ridealongs, and through further development it became a multi-layered story about cops who are fighting crime and corruption in the city of Chicago. This also resulted in the re-titling of the series from RIDEALONG to […]Read On »

DOLLHOUSE - Season Two poster | ©2009 Fox

Tim Minear served as consulting producer on Season One of DOLLHOUSE and executive producer, with creator Joss Whedon, on Season Two of the short-lived Fox series. DOLLHOUSE, which starred Eliza Dushku as the eventually self-aware Echo, concerned a secret business wherein human “dolls” had their original personalities wiped, to be replaced by whatever sort of persona (spy, lover, mother) high-paying clients wanted for short-term engagements. Minear wrote and directed the episodes “Getting Closer” and “Omega,” and scripted “Belle Chose” and “True Believer.” In Part Two of our exclusive interview, he talks about what might have happened had DOLLHOUSE had a […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: TERRIERS executive producer Tim Minear talks frankly about the cancellation – Part 1

Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James in TERRIERS - Season 1 | ©2010 FX/Mike Muller

TERRIERS was a series that concluded its thirteen-episode run a few weeks ago on FX. The series chronicled the adventures of unorthodox private eyes Hank Dolworth, played by Donal Logue, and Britt Pollack, played by Michael Raymond-James, who stumble upon a clandestine land deal that will be bad for their beloved San Diego. Like a lot of shows that have low ratings, TERRIERS did not survive to its second season. Unlike practically any other canceled show in memory, TERRIERS had the network president, John Landgraf, explain to both the press and the series creative team exactly what went into the […]Read On »
