TV Review: ALCATRAZ – Season 1 – “Kit Nelson”

Stars: Sarah Jones, Jorge Garcia, Sam Neill Director: Jack Bender Network: Fox, airs Monday nights Original Telecast: January 24, 2012 Like all new genre series, the pilot usually kicks things off in grand fashion, but the next few episodes are all about finding a tone and a way to do epic stories on a much smaller TV budget. The other issue – how much mythology to dole out week by week without confusing new viewers? ALCATRAZ definitely follows that pattern as the third episode “Kit Nelson” struggles to find a workable tone and an engaging mystery without coming off as […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICAN IDOL – Season 11 – “Auditions No. 1 – Savannah” – Season Premiere

Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson on AMERICAN IDOL - Season 11 - Savannah Auditions | ©2012 Fox/Michael Becker

Cast: Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Seacrest Network: Fox, airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 8 p.m. Original Telecast: Jan. 18, 2012 I found the premiere episode of the 11th season of the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL, extremely amusing. No, not because of the lack of talent that was displayed traditionally, but because they focused on how many talents have come through the show in that span. I’m amused because it has been 10 years of going through these painfully bad auditions – again, not talking about the lack of talent, but the very fact that they […]Read On »

Thyne, Tamara Taylor, John Francis Daley, Patricia Belcher, Michael Grant Terry, Andrew Leeds, Robert Cicchini Writer: Carla Kettner Director: Ian Toynton Network: Fox, Thursdays @ 8 PM Airdate: January 12, 2012 With “The Crack in the Code,” BONES delivers an intriguingly macabre case at the same time it eases forward the relationship (and housing) negotiations of Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) as the birth of their daughter looms ever closer. When a gore-covered spine and skull are found at the site of a (fictional)Washington,D.C.monument, with the words “Where’s the rest […]Read On »

The theme, if you hadn’t guessed from the title is “Yes/No” – which deals with various characters […]Read On »

TV Review: ALCATRAZ – Season 1 – “Pilot”/“Earnest Cobb” – Series Premiere

Sarah Jones and Jorge Garcia in ALCATRAZ - Season 1 - "Pilot" | ©2012 Fox/James Dittiger

Cast: Sarah Jones, Jorge Garcia, Sam Neill, Parminder Nagra Writers: Elizabeth Sarnoff, Jack Bender Directors: Danny Cannon, Steven Lilen, Bryan Wynbrandt Network: Fox, Airs Mondays at 9 p.m. Original Telecast: January 16, 2012 Whenever I see something about Alcatraz, I can’t help but think of THE ROCK. Just because it was sooo Michael Bay at his explosive finest and sooo over-the-top Sean Connery (and his quotes about doing the prom queen and generous use of expletives) that it makes for a great watch – not to mention batsh** crazy Nicolas Cage. So throughout the two hour season premiere for ALCATRAZ […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: FRINGE actor Joshua Jackson talks about the Fox series

The third season of Fox’s science-fiction series FRINGE ended on a cliff-hanger. Our universe and a parallel universe were both eroding due to a recently-discovered phenomenon that had been caused decades ago. The source of the problem was a breach created by Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble) who, when his son died in this world, brought his parallel-universe son Peter over to this world to save him – and then kept him. The now-adult Peter Bishop, played by Joshua Jackson, put himself into a machine to mend both universes. It worked – but Peter blinked out of existence, and no […]Read On »

If you’re wondering whether BONES will return for an eighth season, creator Hart Hanson confirmed today that he’s confident the show has more life in it. “Hell yeah,” says Hanson via Skype at Fox’s TCA press tour today while talking about his the BONES spin-off THE FINDER. “I’m very confident we will come to an agreement and have an eighth season of BONES. TCA News: The future of TERRA NOVA is still uncertain according to Fox

Despite strong ratings, Fox is still not committing to a second season of TERRA NOVA yet. At today’s Fox TCA session, Entertainment President Kevin Reilly says with a smile “we’ve done a good job avoiding some of these big decisions until after these sessions.” That said, Reilly admits that once again they have a high class problem with so many strong hits, and not enough real estate. Another factor, though not mentioned, is that the net is probably waiting until their midseason dramas TOUCH and ALCATRAZ air to see how they fare before pulling the trigger on anything else. “It […]Read On »

TCA News: Fox wants to keep Ryan Seacrest on AMERICAN IDOL

Ryan Seacrest in AMERICAN IDOL - Season 10 | ©2011 Fox/Tony Duran

After watching THE X FACTOR host Steve Jones struggle throughout the first season, it became quite clear that Ryan Seacrest is a natural when it comes to handling contestants, overruns and political correctness on AMERICAN IDOL. This was not lost on Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly who says that job “is much harder than meets the idea.” “Everyone has come to value the idea of a Ryan Seacrest,” says Reilly. “It’s a very hard job to do.” The question is, how much is he worth? If Fox has it’s way, they definitely want to keep him in the IDOL fold, […]Read On »

In this day and age, TV shows aren’t cancelled anymore, they’re just quietly taken off the air with hopes no one will notice. In the case of Fox’s new animated series ALLEN GREGORY (co-created and voiced by Jonah Hill), Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly confirmed today at the FOX TCA press session that the show is indeed cancelled and won’t be back. “We will not be making any more ALLEN GREGORYs,” says Reilly. “We had a great experience with Jonah. We’re in business with him. He has a live action comedy with us. We tried it, but creative content is […]Read On »
