Stars: Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Maxim Knight, Connor Jessup, Sechelle Gabriel, Mpho Koaho, Peter Shinkoda, Colin Cunningham and Sarah Carter Writers: Joe Weisberg (“Mutiny”)/Mark Verheiden (“Eight Hours”) Directors: Holly Dale (“Mutiny”)/Greg Beeman (“Eight Hours”)August 7, 2011 After a strong start, a soft middle and a very cool homestretch, FALLING SKIES has proven to be the thinking man’s science-fiction TV series. It’s more about the strategy of combat and little victories and less about full-out weekly alien/human war. After all, the series began AFTER the aliens had already wiped out most of earth with only a small […]Read On »

Currently in development are possible TV iterations of THE INCREDIBLE HULK and AKA JESSICA JONES. “We’re extremely excited about having Marvel in the fold,” says Lee. “With AKA JESSICA JONES and THE HULK, we hopefully have great choices to look at when they come around.” Lee also adds that he would be a hero to his kids if THE HULK works out. “If we got […]Read On »

CD review: BLACK DEVIL DOLL original soundtrack

BLACK DEVIL DOLL soundtrack | ©2011 Rotten Cotton

It’s one thing to take off old school musical exploitation, but it’s another to actually get the groove down to the point where you think you’ve just stumbled upon some beat-up soundtrack LP found under the seat of a filth-encrusted grindhouse theater, circa 1975 Times Square. While Adrian Young perfectly nailed this Blaxploitation vibe for BLACK DYNAMITE, Giallos Flame’s score for the infinitely more sordid BLACK DEVIL DOLL goes way beyond the Afro rhythms to completely nail the sound of Italo horror. Of course, with a name like that, or a credit list that includes MURDER SET-PIECES, PSYCHO HOLOCAUST and […]Read On »

CD review: HORRIBLE BOSSES soundtrack

HORRIBLE BOSSES soundtrack | ©2011 Madison Gate Records

Whether you’re a suave con artist, a trash-talking teen, or a harassed member of the man cave, there’s no better way to strut your stuff than with balls-out music- whether the stylings are the retro Vegas swing of OCEANS 11, SUPERBAD’s 70’s Motown funk or the blues rock of HORRIBLE BOSSES. Where that film’s composer may have played it cleverly cute for HOP’s Easter bunny in his last comedy score, it’s all about R-rated rhythmic raunch for BOSSES. With a grooving dream team consisting of such musicians as The Dave Matthews Band’s Stefan Lessard, Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready and frequent […]Read On »

With GLEE entering Season 3, controversy has dogged the Fox show in the last few weeks. Some of it stems with co-creator Ryan Murphy talking about writing three of the show’s primary leads off the show (Chris Colfer, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith) at the end of this season by having them graduating, but failing to mention he was quietly developing a spin-off for them. It all blew up in everyone’s face, with tons of back-pedaling, and at today’s Summer 2011 Television Critics Association executive session, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly spoke about it from the network perspective. “The public nature […]Read On »

One of the big wins for the Fox network last season was the risky move of its signature science-fiction series FRINGE from Thursday nights to Fridays – resulting in sustained ratings and giving Fox a stronghold on what has been a traditionally difficult night for them. At today’s Summer 2011 Television Critics Association session with Fox Entertianment President Kevin Reilly, he says their expectations for FRINGE going into Season 4 on Fridays is more of the same. “One of the good things of having a strong network is we can support creative shows that should be on the air,” says […]Read On »
