Smith Director: Wendey Stanzler Network: The CW, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: April 7th, 2010 Well, we can all do a little bit of a happy dance now that THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is finally back from hiatus! I realized that to stretch out seasons and ratings, series have to go on hiatus which makes me hate them, but then when they come back all is forgiven and I welcome them with open arms. Last episode’s big ending […]Read On »

AMERICAN IDOL Shocker: Pia Toscano gone from the competition

Whenever Seacrest talks about a shocking results show, it usually happens on the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL. Who would be shocking? Jacob Lusk or James Durbin going home, and, yes Pia Toscano going home was indeed shocking. She was by far the best chick in the competition. Not just in looks but in talent. It doesn’t make any sense except for this fact – the tweens dominate AMERICAN IDOL. Not a single dude has been kicked off the show. Not one! Yet, four chicks have been given the boot. The theory is TOTALLY being proved week after week. […]Read On »

TV Review: BREAKING IN – Season 1 – “Pilot” – Series Premiere

Christian Slater and Bret Harrison in BREAKING IN - Season 1 - "Pilot" | ©2011 Fox/Richard Foreman

Stars: Christian Slater, Bret Harrison, Odette Annable, Alphonso McAuley Writer: Adam F. Goldberg Director: Seth Gordon Network: Fox, airs Wednesday nights Original Telecast: April 6, 2011 Bret Harrison has been a star in need of an excellent vehicle for his everyman charms and comedic timing. While he was great in the two-season REAPER cult series, it didn’t propel him the way it should have. Throw in a strange stint on the second season of V that was trying to make him the comic relief in a show that was in more need of action, drama and actual sci-fi than comedy, […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICAN IDOL – Season 10 – “The Top 9 Perform”

AMERICAN IDOL - Season 10 - The Final 9: Clockwise from bottom right: Haley Reinhart, James Durbin, Pia Toscano, Casey Abrams, Jacob Lusk, Stefano Langone, Paul McDonald, Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery | ©2011 Fox/Michael Becker

Cast: Ryan Seacrest, Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays Original Air Date: April 6, 2011 After losing two contestants last week on the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL, there are no more second chances and whoever gets the least amount of votes now, is going home. Not sure how I feel about the “Judges Save” thing. On one hand I like it because they saved Casey two weeks ago. On the other hand, I’m not sure if anyone should get a second chance. However, it is a reality show, so I guess that […]Read On »

TV Review: BEING HUMAN – Season 1 – “You’re the One That I Haunt”

Mark Pelligrino in BEING HUMAN - Season 1 - "You're the One That I Haunt" | ©2011 Syfy/Phillipe Boss

Stars: Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington, Mark Pellegrino, Kristen Hager, Sarah Allen, Gianpaolo Venuta Writer: Nancy Won Director: Erik Canuel Network: Syfy, Mondays @ 9 PM Airdate: April 4, 2011 There are plenty of dramatic events in the BEING HUMAN episode “You’re the One That I Haunt,” but they’ll probably play better for those who haven’t seen the original, because this hews very closely to the template in two of the plot threads, while being rather brief with the third. As the episode opens, ghost Sally (Meagan Rath) is much the worse for wear after a mostly-failed exorcism attempt […]Read On »

TV Review: DANCING WITH THE STARS – Season 12 – “10 Couples Perform – Week 3”

Stars: Chelsea Kane, Kirstie Alley, Wendy Williams, Hines Ward, Petra Nemcova, Romeo, Sugar Ray Leonard, Kendra Wilkinson, Ralph Macchio, Chris Jericho Network: ABC, airs Mondays, Tuesdays Original Telecast: April 4, 2011 There is a new champ in the DWTS town. Normally weeks go by without anyone taking out a front runner, not so Season 12 of DANCING WITH THE STARS.  Hines Ward, who slowly and unnoticeably crept up upon the heels of first place helmer Ralph Macchio last week, overtook the Karate Kid this week placing first with a score of 25 and tying with Petra Nemcova who came from […]Read On »

TV Review: THE BORGIAS – Season 1 – “The Poisoned Chalice” / “The Assassin” – Series Premiere

THE BORGIAS poster | ©2011 Showtime

Stars: Jeremy Irons, François Arnaud, Holliday Grainger, Colm Feore, David Oakes, Derek Jacobi, Joanne Whalley Writer: Neil Jordan Director: Neil Jordan Network: Showtime, airs Sunday nights Original Telecast: April 3rd, 2010 Just because a series is a period drama doesn’t mean that it’s an instant win with me. I’ve supported a lot of different period shows over the last several years such as, DEADWOOD, ROME, SPARTACUS, and more recently CAMELOT. Now Showtime is bringing us the story of THE BORGIAS, one of the first ‘crime’ families known in history. THE BORGIAS is something akin to THE TUDORS, in the fact […]Read On »

TV Review: CAMELOT – Season 1 – “The Sword and the Crown”

Jamie Campbell Bower in CAMELOT - Season 1 | ©2011 Starz

Stars: Jamie Campbell Bower, Joseph Fiennes, Eva Green, Claire Forlani, James Purefoy Writer: Chris Chibnall Director: Ciaran Donnelly Network: Starz, airs Friday nights Original Telecast: April 1st, 2010 I’m still thoroughly enjoying one of the more original series on TV, with the second episode of CAMELOT entitled “The Sword and the Crown.” This series moves incredibly fast, in fact a lot faster than most period television. I don’t know if it’s due to budget or number of episodes ordered, but this show is MOVING. Arthur (Jamie Campbell Bower) just found out in the pilot that he was the only make […]Read On »
