Cast: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Jim Beaver, Misha Collins Writers: Eric. C. Charmelo, Nicole Snyder Director: Jennot Szwarc Network: The CW, airs Fridays Original Telecast: February 18, 2010 I mean really, what other show, besides SUPERNATURAL could get away with the title of this week’s episode of “Mannequin 3: The Reckoning”? I wonder how many viewers of the show, and for the matter readers of this article, realize that MANNEQUIN was a terrible ’80s movie starring Andrew McCarthy and a young Kim Cattrall. It scared the crap out of me. No, not because it is a horror movie (in fact, […]Read On »

Cast: Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble, Lance Reddick, Jasika Nicole Writers: Glen Whitman, Robert Chiapetta Directors: Thomas Yatsko Network: Fox, airs Fridays Original Telecast: February 18, 2010 “Ghosts, that’s where you draw the line?” – Peter (Joshua Jackson) on FRINGE “6B” Is love strong enough to cross universes? Can one husband from one universe and one wife from another be in the exact same time having lost their partners and then somehow cross the streams to see each other? That was the idea behind “6B” on FRINGE this week, another relatively non-eventful creature-of-the-week episode, however, essential in mending the […]Read On »

As the months and episodes keep ticking to the finale of SMALLVILLE after ten seasons, the show continues to explore what it takes to get Clark Kent (Tom Welling) to transform from mild-mannered farmboy to Man of Steel. While at this winter’s CW TCA session, ASSIGNMENT X caught up with SMALLVILLE executive producer Brian Wayne Peterson to chat about the show’s forthcoming end and get some teases about what’s to come. [Note, this interview was conducted before the series returned from winter hiatus and before it was recently announced that Michael Rosenbaum was going to return as Lex Luthor for […]Read On »

Movie Review: UNKNOWN

UNKNOWN movie poster | ©2011 Warner Bros.

Rating: R Stars: Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, January Jones, Aidan Quinn, Bruno Ganz, Frank Langella Writers: Oliver Butcher & Stephen Cornwell, based on the novel by Didier van Cauwelaert Director: Jaume Collet-Serra Distributor: Warner Bros. Release Date: February 18, 2011 Director Jaume Collet-Serra helmed 2009’s ORPHAN, which had a truly “Holy bananas!” plot twist that was fairly unforeseeable. UNKNOWN likewise hinges on a big plot twist and, although this one is easier to guess before it is revealed, it’s also a better movie. This is largely because UNKNOWN is a perfectly decent action thriller even once we and our hero […]Read On »

Cast: Randy Jackson, Ryan Seacrest, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez Network: Fox, airs Wednesdays and Thursdays Original Telecast: February 17, 2011 I really wish that they would have started this year’s AMERICAN IDOL in Hollywood. It would have not only saved me some time in my life, but it would have given us an even greater insight into the whole process of deciding who gets to perform for America and who does not. Don’t get me wrong, I have been more than happy we have gotten as much as we have as we have not had this type of access or […]Read On »

CD Review: Occult Detective Club – CRIMES

Occult Detective Club - CRIMES

While it might seem easy, crafting a solid power punk album requires a couple of important ingredients that are often forgotten – namely attitude, angst, crunching guitars and short songs. This formula is strictly adhered to by Occult Detective Club on CRIMES, which delivers a tight 12 song disc that clocks a little under 30 minutes. Guitars jangle forcefully on the lead-off track “In Another Life” and segue into one cool track after another with “Our Bitter End” being the strongest, while “Calling the Detectives” provides playful wordplay and toe-tapping fun – “she’s calling the detectives/you’re gonna need an alibi.” […]Read On »
