Day Eight proved to be the final day for 24 the TV series as the real-time series (chronicling a major U.S. crisis in a 24-hour period) waved goodbye in the same aggressive manner in which it began.

Kiefer Sutherland toplined the series as former Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) agent Jack Bauer. Over the course of eight seasons he lost so many of his loved ones, so much of his mind and soul and of course his privacy, he was a man without a country – a man without a home.

TV Review: LEVERAGE – SEASON 3 – “The San Lorenzo Job” – Season Finale

On the heels of “The Big Bang Job,” “The San Lorenzo Job” has Nate (Timothy Hutton) and company heading in pursuit of Damian Moreau (Goran Visnjic) to the title island nation, where the dictatorial President Ribera (Alastair Duncan) holds sway. San Lorenzo has no extradition treaties and Moreau bought Ribera his position, so it’s a safe haven for the criminal – or so he thinks. With an election coming but U.N. inspectors thick on the ground, Ribera has jailed all of his opposition, including Eliot’s (Christian Kane) old friend Gen. Flores – who refuses to be sprung from prison without his men.

TV Review: LEVERAGE – SEASON 3 – “The Big Bang Job”

As Season Three of LEVERAGE has had a through-line of Nate (Timothy Hutton) et al being urged/blackmailed by a mysterious Italian (Elisabetta Canalis) to go after mysterious, extremely powerful international criminal Damian Moreau, it stands to reason that the season finale would bring our team and the villain face to face. Director Marc Roskin and writers Chris Downey & Geoffrey Thorne have crafted an episode that has not only the customary LEVERAGE intrigue and impersonations, but also some surprising (for this show) gunplay and fatalities.

Bear McCreary continues to prove himself as the hardest-working composer on television, whose sound gets bigger and better with each show, none more spectacularly than with the ripping symphonic style he’s given to Fox’s spin on DC comics’ HUMAN TARGET. Though he’s composed the pokey country experiments of EUREKA, the sci-fi mythos of GALACTICA and CAPRICA and the chilling apocalypses of THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES and THE WALKING DEAD, there always seemed to be a superhero waiting to break free from Bear McCreary. One hour later after watching SMALLVILLE’s winter finale “Icarus,” and all I could think was, “what the hell?” And look, before I can continue, there’s no way to write this review without giving up spoilers, so considered yourself warned.

Mindful of the fact that there’s probably no increasing over the stab to the heart that was the Season Four finale, the DEXTER team go in another direction as they conclude Season Five on a bittersweet note that feels just right.

‘Tis the season for holiday specials and TNT’s LEVERAGE is no different. Mixing in whimsy and festive good will with crime and heists is a mix made in Boston as the Leverage team attempt to stop a mall manager (Dave Foley) from ruining Christmas. The scam: to aid in his gambling debts, he’s hired a bunch of criminal rent-a-Santa’s to plan the biggest holiday swindle of all in “The Ho, Ho, Ho Job.”

TV Review: FRINGE – SEASON 3 – “Marionette”

Not sure why they gave us this episode as the send-off for FRINGE in 2010. In fact, I’d go as far as to say this fall finale ended in a whimper rather than a bang. Instead of ending it last week with the blowout episode where both Olivias (Anna Torv) swapped sides once again. We were given just a run-of-the-mill mad scientist episode in “Marionette.”
