During its ninth season, SUPERNATURAL had a backdoor pilot for a spin-off in its episode “Bloodlines.” It didn’t work. However, SUPERNATURAL is now successfully in its tenth season and renewed for an eleventh. At a question and answer session with the Television Critics Association on January 11, The CW’s president Mark Pedowitz said that he’s not only still amenable to the possibility of a SUPERNATURAL spin-off, he actively wants one. “I’ve been pretty outspoken in wanting another SUPERNATURAL spin-off,” Pedowitz relates. “It really is in [executive producers] Jeremy Carver and Eric Kripke and Bob Singer’s court what is the best […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “The Things We Leave Behind”

Kathryn Love Newton as Claire in SUPERNATURAL - Season 10 - "The Things We Left Behind" | ©2014 The CW/Liane Hentscher

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark A. Sheppard, Ruth Connell, Kathryn Love Newton, Roark Critchlow Writer: Andrew Dabb, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Guy Norman Bee Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: December 9, 2014 There’s a theme running through the SUPERNATURAL episode “The Things We Leave Behind.” Yes, the show often deals with family, but here it’s not just the Winchesters’ fraternal bond, but also their recollections of John, Castiel (Misha Collins) trying to cope with parental responsibility, and Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) trying to wrap his head around having his mother Rowena […]Read On »

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Kim Rhodes, Briana Buckmaster, Morgan Taylor Campbell, Fred Ewanuick Writer: Jenny Klein, story by Jenny Klein & Phil Sgriccia, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Tim Andrew Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: December 2, 2014 SUPERNATURAL is clearly revving its mythology motor, ready to do some big stuff with Dean (Jensen Ackles) and the Mark of Cain he still bears. However, since this is a broadcast series with twenty-two episodes a season, it’s natural that sometimes the show falls back on monster of the week stories, which is fair enough – […]Read On »

Jensen Ackles as Dean and Jared Padalecki as Sam in SUPERNATURAL - Season 10 - "Girls, Girls, Girls" | ©2014 The CW/Katie Yu

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark A. Sheppard, Erica Carroll, Travis Aaron Wade, Ruth Connell, Michael Antonakos, Chelsea Hobbs, Kirsten Comerford, Elysia Rotaru, Steve Belford Writer: Robert Berens, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Robert Singer Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: November 25, 2014 You’ve got to love a SUPERNATURAL episode that packs together online dating, demon pimps, a coven-seeking witch (Ruth Connell), angels making ethical choices, Dean’s (Jensen Ackles) vengeful stalker – and Crowley’s (Mark A. Sheppard) mother. Even better, Robert Berens’ teleplay for “Girls, Girls, Girls” drops most of them in just […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “Ask Jeeves”

Jared Padalecki as Sam, Izabella Miko as Olivia, and Jensen Ackles as Dean in SUPERNATURAL - Season 10 - "Ask Jeeves" | ©2014 The CW/Michael Courtney

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Izabella Miko, Kevin McNulty, Gillian Vigman, Debra Lynne McCabe, Clare Filipow, Marcus Rosner Writers: Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder, series created by Eric Kripke Director: John McCarthy Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: November 18, 2014 SUPERNATURAL goes from the sublime (the previous week’s “Fan Fiction”) to the serviceable with “Ask Jeeves,” a pastiche of CLUE and MURDER, SHE WROTE (visually and verbally name-checked here), with the addition of a monster. The best thing about “Ask Jeeves” – kudos to the editing department – may be the “Then” sequence, i.e., SUPERNATURAL’s catch-up […]Read On »

SUPERNATURAL guest star Rob Benedict has a God complex – Exclusive Interview

Rob Benedict as Chuck and Jared Padalecki as Sam in SUPERNATURAL - "The Real Ghostbusters" | ©2009 The CW/David Gray

On SUPERNATURAL, now in its tenth(!) season on the CW, Tuesdays at 9 PM, a lot of weird stuff happens as brothers Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) continue to hunt monsters and grapple with demons, angels and you-name-its. However, one of the stranger things within this strange universe, created by Eric Kripke, was the character of Chuck Shurley, pen name Carver Edlund, played by Rob Benedict. Chuck, albeit a nerd, was a Prophet of the Lord, who actually foresaw the adventures of the Winchesters, which he wrote as novels, which developed a cult following – within the […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “Fan Fiction”

Rachel Warkentin in SUPERNATURAL - Season 10 - "Fan Fiction" | ©2014 The CW/Katie Yu

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Katie Sarife, Joy Regullano, Alyssa Lynch, Rob Benedict Writer: Robbie Thompson, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Phil Sgriccia Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: November 11, 2014 This reviewer is not often moved to tears, either of hilarity or emotion, nor does she often give out the grade of A. However, in the case of SUPERNATURAL’s two-hundredth episode, “Fan Fiction,” the first occurred and the second is warranted. Written by Robbie Thompson and directed by Phil Sgriccia, what could have easily gone off the rails at every turn is instead hysterically […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 10 – “Paper Moon”

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Brit Sheridan, Emily Tennant Writer: Adam Glass, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Jeannot Szwarc Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: October 28, 2014 After everything that went down at the end of Season 9 and the start of Season 10, it’s understandable that SUPERNATURAL would want to give the Winchesters a little breathing room to settle down and talk to each other. Of course, there can’t be an entire episode of this, which is why “Paper Moon” also has werewolves in it. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) are chilling […]Read On »

Sheppard, Erica Carroll, Jud Tylor, Ruth Connell, David Nykl Writers: Brad Buckner & Eugenie Ross-Leming, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Jensen Ackles Network: The CW, Tuesdays @ 9 PM Original Airdate: October 21, 2014 SUPERNATURAL entered its tenth season with a lot of crises – Dean (Jensen Ackles) turning demon, Castiel (Misha Collins) dying from lack of grace, Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) suffering from unreciprocated friendly feelings towards Dean, etc. “Soul Survivor” ties up most of this. There are some moments of epic weirdness – Crowley saves Castiel?! – but […]Read On »
