Adult Swim’s CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL, now in its third season, is a show of almost indescribably strange scripted comedy. Ken Marino (pronounced “Meh-REE-no”) plays Dr. Glenn Richie, one of the strange members of staff. Marino is also known to TV viewers as private detective Vinnie Van Lowe on VERONICA MARS, often stymied catering worker Ron Donald on PARTY DOWN, and Tony, single gay demon adoptive father of a human baby, on REAPER. The Long Island native is also a prolific screenwriter of comedy films. He talks with us about all of these gigs and more. ASSIGNMENT X: Do you have a […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICA’S GOT TALENT – Season 6 – “Minneapolis Auditions”

Howie Mandel in AMERICA'S GOT TALENT - Season 6 | ©2011 NBC/Chris Haston

Network: NBC, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: June 8, 2011 At first it seems like another joke Howie Mandel is playing on Piers Morgan. AMERICA’S GOT TALENT is about to start and there is no Morgan anywhere. Maybe Mandel has locked him in his dressing room? Or perhaps he gave him the wrong directions to the theater. Nope, none of that, but wouldn’t that have been hilarious? Well, not to Morgan I suppose, instead the truth is because of bad weather Morgan’s flight was delayed from New York and he wasn’t able to make the start of the show. As […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICA’S GOT TALENT – Season 6 – “Houston Auditions”

Piers Morgan in AMERICA'S GOT TALENT - Season 6 | ©2011 NBC/Chris Haston

Network: NBC, airs Tuesday nights Original Telecast: June 8, 2011 AMERICA’S GOT TALENT heads down south to Houston, Texas where many a talented act performed and got a pass to Las Vegas. Shockingly judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel seemed to agree on almost every act during the first half of a two-hour installment. There wasn’t much tension going on between Morgan and Mandel (Mandel usually can’t get enough of razzing Morgan). They were harmonious in their decision to send through The Rhinestone Roping knife throwing act, The Mona Lisa singing duo, a glow in the dark juggler […]Read On »

TV Review: THE GLADES – Season 2 premiere – “Family Matters”

Matt Passmore in THE GLADES - Season 2 - "Family Matters" | ©2011 A&E

Stars: Matt Passmore, Kiele Sanchez, Carlos Gómez, Michelle Hurd Writer: Tom Garrigus Director: Gary A. Randall Network: A&E, airs Sunday nights Original Telecast: June 5, 2011 Entering its second season, THE GLADES is A&E’s attempt to capture the breezy, fun-filled style of USA’s signature crime series BURN NOTICE and for the most part it works. THE GLADES is familiar detective series mumbo jumbo, but it is largely kept alive by an engaging performance by Matt Passmore as Jim Longworth. He’s a former Chicago cop, now working for the police in a small town in the Florida Everglades. The Florida attitude […]Read On »

That’s the case of CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. Created and starring Rob Coddry as surgeon Blake Downs who likes to wear clown make-up to be more comforting to his young patients (even though it’s more terrifying than relaxing), […]Read On »

TV Review: LOVE BITES – Series Premiere

Greg Grunberg and Constance Zimmer in LOVE BITES - Season 1 | ©2011 NBC/Chris Haston

Stars: Greg Grunberg, Constance Zimmer Writer: Cindy Chupack Director: Marc Buckland Network: NBC, airs Thursday nights Original Telecast: June 2, 2011 The good news, the person who greenlit the new NBC anthology romantic comedy series has long since been fired and a new regime is in place. The bad news, I still had to sit through one of the worst hours of television that I will never get back. LOVE BITES has an unfortunate name, because it’s easy to sum up the show in one easy work. It bites. And it bites hard. The idea of a romantic anthology isn’t […]Read On »

Breaking News: Why CBS moved RULES OF ENGAGEMENT to Saturday Nights!?

Every year, there’s one programming decision that seems to be either incredibly stupid or quite inspired. The jury is still out on which category CBS’s attempt to move their sturdy comedy RULES OF ENGAGEMENT to Saturday night at 8:00 to anchor a new comedy block falls in. If Friday is TV’s death slot, than Saturday is a graveyard of weekly network repeats and news programs. To try and get a foothold back on Saturday by the networks would take a genius move. By using RULES as an anchor (it has a 22-episode order) to allow repeats for some of their […]Read On »
