TV Review: AMERICAN IDOL – Season 11 – “Auditions No. 1 – Savannah” – Season Premiere

Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson on AMERICAN IDOL - Season 11 - Savannah Auditions | ©2012 Fox/Michael Becker

Cast: Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Seacrest Network: Fox, airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 8 p.m. Original Telecast: Jan. 18, 2012 I found the premiere episode of the 11th season of the world’s greatest karaoke competition, AMERICAN IDOL, extremely amusing. No, not because of the lack of talent that was displayed traditionally, but because they focused on how many talents have come through the show in that span. I’m amused because it has been 10 years of going through these painfully bad auditions – again, not talking about the lack of talent, but the very fact that they […]Read On »

TV Review: REVENGE – Season 1 – “Commitment”

Emily VanCamp and Josh Bowman in REVENGE - Season 1 - "Commitment" | ©2012 ABC/Colleen Hayes

Stars: Emily VanCamp, Madeleine Stowe, Henry Czerny, Josh Bowman, Nick Wechsler, Gabriel Mann, Ashley Madekwe, Christa B. Allen, Connor Paolo Writer: Dan Dworkin & Jay Beattie Director: Matt Earl Beesley Network: ABC, Wednesday nights, 10 p.m. Original Telecast: January 18, 2012 “Commitment” is one of those episodes of REVENGE that feels like the story is going all over the place and not really getting anywhere. Part of it may be that Emily’s (Emily VanCamp) plan for revenge against Victoria and Conrad Grayson for the wrongful conviction of her father David Clarke (James Tupper) is creating a certain amount of collateral damage, this time to Charlotte (Christa B. Allen), Victoria’s daughter and Jack (Nick Wechsler). […]Read On »

TV Review: ONCE UPON A TIME – Season 1 – “True North”

Lana Parrilla in ONCE UPON A TIME - Season 1 - True North" | ©2012 ABC/Jack Rowand

Stars: Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Robert Carlyle, Lana Parrilla, Jared Gilmore, Josh Dallas, Raphael Sbarge Writer: David H. Goodman and Liz Tigelaar Director: Dean White Network: ABC, Sunday nights, 8 p.m. Original Telecast: January 15, 2012 It seems pretty clear from this episode, “True North,” that Regina’s grip on the modern day world of ONCE UPON A TIME is slipping. Her fairy tale counterpart The Evil Queen (Lana Parilla plays both) isn’t getting all that she wants, either, but she’s got a heck of a lot more power in the fairy tale land. Or maybe she can be more overt about it. As usual, we have a version of a fairy tale […]Read On »

Bo” starts out with Sarah (Yvonne Strahovksi) telling Chuck (Zachary Levi) that she’s had it with spying. What? The world of CHUCK without evil forces out for world domination? Not for long because Chuck makes the fatal error – he says, “one last mission.” This time it’s to recover something Morgan (Joshua Gomez) left behind while partying in Vail, Colorado, back when he was still in his buggy Intersect phase. TV Review: ALCATRAZ – Season 1 – “Pilot”/“Earnest Cobb” – Series Premiere

Sarah Jones and Jorge Garcia in ALCATRAZ - Season 1 - "Pilot" | ©2012 Fox/James Dittiger

Cast: Sarah Jones, Jorge Garcia, Sam Neill, Parminder Nagra Writers: Elizabeth Sarnoff, Jack Bender Directors: Danny Cannon, Steven Lilen, Bryan Wynbrandt Network: Fox, Airs Mondays at 9 p.m. Original Telecast: January 16, 2012 Whenever I see something about Alcatraz, I can’t help but think of THE ROCK. Just because it was sooo Michael Bay at his explosive finest and sooo over-the-top Sean Connery (and his quotes about doing the prom queen and generous use of expletives) that it makes for a great watch – not to mention batsh** crazy Nicolas Cage. So throughout the two hour season premiere for ALCATRAZ […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: Adam Horowitz chats about ONCE UPON A TIME

Ginnifer Goodwin in ONCE UPON A TIME - Season 1 | ©2012 ABC/Kharen Hill

ABC’s new series ONCE UPON A TIME, airing Sundays at 8 PM, is definitely a fantasy, but beyond that, it’s hard to compare to anything on the air, now or in the past. The short version of the premise is that the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) exiles many characters from Fairytale Land, including Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin), Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) and Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle), to the picturesque small town of Storybrooke, Maine. The erstwhile fairytale folk have no notion of their true identities but young Henry (Jared Gilmore), the adopted son of the mayor, has a glimmer of what […]Read On »

TCA News: Dustin Hoffman talks about the LUCK of doing the new HBO series

Dustin Hoffman in LUCK - Season 1 | ©HBO/Steve Schapiro

One of the biggest coups in TV this year comes from HBO that nabbed actor Dustin Hoffman to star in LUCK, the gambling drama created by David Milch and directed by Michael Mann. At HBO’s TCA session for the series which debuts January 29, Hoffman admitted he didn’t know what to expect joining a TV show for the first time. “I was expecting [to shoot] 20 pages a day,” says Hoffman. “I was expecting an atmosphere that, you know, was like making movies on cocaine or something, but it’s the opposite. We did the best we could with as much […]Read On »

The big question when TNT announced they were bringing back the iconic 1980s soap opera DALLAS a weekly series, was whether it would continue to mythology previously established or do its own thing. At TNT’s TCA press tour, Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), explains that it’s “not a remake or a reboot, but a continuation of the Ewing family.” Executive producer Cynthia Cidre who developed the new incarnation emphasizes this mandate, which is why the new series not only focuses on the next generation of Ewings but brings back […]Read On »
