Working on network television is not the easiest thing according to screenwriter Mike White (he previously created the Fox shows CRACKING UP and PASADENA), but it was HBO that has brought him back TV with ENLIGHTENED and now he finally feels he’s getting a chance to do it right. The series stars Laura Dern as a woman who goes an a mission of self-discovery after tragedy has melted down her life. Luke Wilson and Dern’s real-life mother Diane Ladd also star. “I have such respect for the shows HBO puts on,” says White at today’s TCA sessions for HBO in […]Read On »

TCA 2011 News: DOCTOR WHO might consider more U.S.-based stories in the future

Matt Smith and Hugh Bonneville in DOCTOR WHO - Series 6 - Episode 3 | ©2011 BBC

After the DOCTOR WHO series made a brief tour of the U.S. in Series 6  by actually shooting in the states for the first time, showrunner Steven Moffat wouldn’t rule out the idea of revisiting America again for the show – but only if it’s right. “It’s entirely about story,” says Moffat while at today’s Summer 2011 TCA tour in Beverly Hills. “I don’t think in order to make DOCTOR WHO [appeal to]  Americans you have to do stories set in America. Americans are not going to wish there were more series set in America. It’s story driven. [America] is […]Read On »

TCA 2011 News: Why THE HOUR is more political thriller than MAD MEN

THE HOUR - Series 1 | ©2011 BBC America

BBC America will be debuting THE HOUR, its new co-production with BBC 2 on August 17th and critics got a first taste of the impressive looking  new series at the Summer’s 2011 TCA session. Set in the mid 1950s, the series created by Abi Morgan is an espionage thriller set in the news room of the BBC as it follows the triangle of a young journalist (Ben Whishaw), an ambitious young producer (Romola Garai) and the new lead anchor of the show (Dominic West). While similarities between THE HOUR and MAD MEN are inevitable, executive producer Derek Wax says those […]Read On »

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT Recap: Third Hollywood Quarter-Finals eliminations

Professor Splash moves on (pictures with Nick Cannon and Seth Grabel) on AMERICA'S GOT TALENT - Season 6 | ©2011 NBC/Trae Patton

To mix it up a bit this week on the third week of eliminations during AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: The Quarter Finals, they did something almost too cruel to imagine. Host Nick Cannon called to the stage three acts – Purrfect Angelz, Summerwind Skippers and Ian Johnson. Then, after the traditional looooonngggg pause, Cannon delivered the message to all three acts that “NONE” of you are going to the semi-finals. Man, that’s cold! AGT quickly made up for it when Cannon called out PopLyfe and Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. and told them, after the long pause, they were BOTH going to […]Read On »

PhiCorp is a pharmaceutical company that is stock piling so many meds and antibiotics they could keep the planet healthy for years, […]Read On »

TV Review: AMERICA’S GOT TALENT – Season 6 – “Hollywood Quarter-Finals” – Week 3

POPLYFE perform on AMERICA'S GOT TALENT - Season 6 - "Hollywood Quarter-Finals" - Week 3 | ©2011 NBC/Trae Patton

Twelve more performed on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT during Week 3 of the “Hollywood Quarter-Finals” hoping for the chance to go to the semi finals. None of the hopefuls seemed all that impressive this week. Sure there were a couple of good singers, some adequate novelty acts and maybe a jump roping crew that can really swing their ropes but it doesn’t look like this week will garner the ultimate winner of AGT. However, Piers Morgan only buzzed three acts this week as opposed to buzzing four in each of the past two weeks. Still, it was not an exceptional night. […]Read On »

Stars: David Strathairn, Ryan Cartwright, Warren Christie, Warren Christie, Azita Ghanizada, Laura Mennell, Malik Yoba, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Devon Graye, Callum Keith Rennie Writers: Ira Steven Behr & Robert Hewitt Wolfe, series created by Zak Penn & Michael Karnow Director: Nick Copus Network: Syfy, Mondays @ 10 PM Airdate: July 25, 2011 While not as morally gray as last week’s episode – maybe because this week’s antagonist has caused much more harm with much less cause – “Anger Management” has a lot of strong scenes. Director Nick Copus seems to have picked up on some thematic similarities with 28 DAYS LATER/28 […]Read On »

TV Review: WAREHOUSE 13 – Season 3 – “Love Sick”

Aaron Ashmore in WAREHOUSE 13 - Season 3 - "Love Sick" | ©2011 NBC/Steve Wilkie

Chechik Network: Syfy, Mondays @ 9 PM Airdate: July 25, 2011 As with last week, WAREHOUSE 13 is really shaping up nicely this season. The larger cast of Warehouse employees allows the writers to have a lot more story in one episode, and to show more sides of the characters we already know and love. Which is ironic since this week’s episode is called “Love Sick.” Myka (Joanne Kelly) and Pete (Eddie McClintock) find themselves in bed […]Read On »
