THE KING'S SPEECH wins Best Picture at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 27, 2011 | ©2011 A.M.P.A.S.

There’s not much to say about the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, except that as much as they promised to be young and hip by hiring James Franco and Anne Hathaway to host, it was still the same old Academy Awards. Translation: few surprises, a dearth of actual laughs and predominantly canned speeches lacking any emotion or wit. That said, THE KING’S SPEECH took home the Best Picture title, while frontrunners Colin Firth won for Best Actor in SPEECH and Natalie Portman for Best Actress in BLACK SWAN. The full list of winners are below … Best Picture Iain Canning, Emile […]Read On »

The X List: Catwoman of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES: 5 Things You Need To Know

Catwoman is eyeing you. | ©2011 DC Comics.

Well, now we know: The two villains that will square off against Christian Bale’s gravelly-voiced Gotham City crusader in the third Christopher Nolan-helmed Batman film DARK KNIGHT RISES will be Catwoman (purrfect) and Bane (snap!) played by Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy, respectively. With a fan base not only devoutly dedicated to the many years of continuity in the Bat-comics, but impressed by Nolan’s unique, some might even say pseudo-realistic take on the surreal shenanigans of the cowled one and his extensive rogues’ gallery, how exactly do you handle reintroducing both of these antagonists in a way sure to please […]Read On »

Movie Review: LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS

LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS movie poster | © 2010 20th Century Fox

There’s a telling movie to be made about the pharmaceutical drug trade in the U.S. (and elsewhere), but LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS isn’t it. This wouldn’t be a problem if LOVE wasn’t aspiring to be that movie, while simultaneously putting romance front and center.

Regnier Director: Sergio Mimica-Gazzan Network: TNT, airs Sunday Nights Original Telecast: July 14, 2013 Finally, FALLING SKIES is righting the ship.  After spending most of this season meandering through the aftermath of a genocidal alien invasion that somehow no longer seems scary enough, “The Pickett Line” went darker, added a real sense of danger to the proceedings, and in the process made a lot of […]Read On »
