SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE, which premieres tonight on Starz at 10 PM, is actually the second season of the SPARTACUS series, even though it’s the third year of the show. Series creator and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight understands how this might cause some head-scratching. In 2010’s SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND, Andy Whitfield starred as the famous historical figure. The season followed him through his early days of being enslaved, being trained as a gladiator and finally leading a revolt at the Ludus (gladiator training camp) that left its owner Batiatus (John Hannah) definitively dead and Batiatus’ pregnant wife Lucretia, played by […]Read On »

Relatively few actresses create three indelible characters in their careers, but Alyson Hannigan has managed this hat trick and may well enact more in her future. Hannigan, born in Washington, D.C.and raised in Atlanta, started her career early, appearing in commercials before moving into films (including MY STEPMOTHER IS AN ALIEN) and television (FREE SPIRIT). Then, in 1997, Hannigan began her seven-season run as BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER’s Willow Rosenberg, who started as a shy brainy high school student and became a very powerful witch, along with achieving real-world lesbian icon status when the character came out. Willow lives on […]Read On »

In NBC’s new supernatural procedural GRIMM, which airs Fridays at 9 PM, David Giuntoli plays Nick Burkhardt, who assumes he’s an ordinary police officer until he discovers that he’s actually a Grimm, descended from the brothers who wrote the Grimm fairy tales. Turns out the original Grimm siblings were writing about real entities and incidents. Their heirs have the ability to see the true inhuman nature of creatures who blend into the real world, disguised as regular humans. The basic premise of GRIMM was crafted by producing partners Sean Hayes (yes, the actor from WILL AND GRACE) and Todd Milliner. […]Read On »

TV Review: SUPERNATURAL – Season 7 – “Shut Up, Dr. Phil”

James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter in SUPERNATURAL - Season 7 - "Shut Up, Dr. Phil" | ©2011 The CW/Jack Rowand

Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter, Sean Owen Roberts Writers: Brad Buckner & Eugenie Ross-Leming, series created by Eric Kripke Director: Phil Sgriccia Network: The CW, Fridays @ 9 PM Original Telecast: October 21, 2011 When supernatural shows that are usually dark with hints of humor decide to be lighthearted without committing to going gonzo, the results are usually lightweight. That’s in one way the case with SUPERNATURAL’s episode “Shut Up, Dr. Phil,” but on the other hand, anything that brings together BUFFY and ANGEL alumni James Marsters (Spike) and Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) automatically has worthwhile qualities. Sarah Michelle Gellar in RINGER - Season 1 - "She's Ruining Everything" | ©2011 The CW/Michael Desmond

A) It’s not very good. B) As much as it’s commendable that Gellar wants to do something that’s not BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, picking a project where she’s not allowed to kick-ass and take names is incredibly hard to get used to. She […]Read On »

Cheeks and Sean Hemeon in HUSBANDS

In a pleasant one-story house on a quiet street in North Hollywood, two handsome young men walk down a hallway, have a friendly argument, then get into bed together. Then they do it again, and again.
