Poor Seeley Booth. Sure, the BONES FBI special agent and former military sharpshooter played by David Boreanaz is at the top of his game as a lawman, but when it comes to love, he faces one setback after another. At the end of Season Five, he wanted to make a go of it with Dr. Temperance “Bones” Brennan, played by Emily Deschanel, but the thought of that kind of intimacy with her good friend and partner frightened her. Between seasons, Booth fell for globe-trotting ace journalist Hannah Burley (Katheryn Winnick), and this season, the two moved in together, but the […]Read On »

Kurt Fuller in BETTER WITH YOU | ©2010 ABC/Bob D'Amico

BETTER WITH YOU is one of ABC’s freshman comedies lighting up its Wednesday lineup. Here’s what he had to say … KURT FULLER: I play the father, Joel Putney, on BETTER WITH YOU. it’s basically a family comedy with three generations of couples, who’ve been together for three very distinct periods of time – my wife and […]Read On »

SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK Broadway poster

This Friday, actor Kevin Cahoon stars in the new Disney CGI animated films MARS NEEDS MOMS as the Martian sidekick Wingnut. However, Cahoon is also known for his Broadway work, including his work with Julie Taymor on THE LION KING musical. Naturally, we couldn’t resist asking him his take on Taymor’s latest Broadway effort SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK, which has had its fair share of controversy, accidents, unhappy actors – and all of this in the preview stage. Here’s what Cahoon had to say … ASSIGNMENT X: You’ve worked with Julie Taymor before on THE LION KING musical, what […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: MARS NEEDS MOMS actor Kevin Cahoon gets a kick out playing a sidekick

In the new Disney 3D CGI animated feature MARS NEEDS MOMS (which opens Friday nationwide), the film employed the pain-staking performance capture technique used on such films as POLAR EXPRESS, BEOWULF and A CHRISTMAS CAROL. For actor Kevin Cahoon, it was a process he relished as he plays a Martian character called Wingnut – the sidekick to Gribble (Dan Fogler) who doesn’t quite understand the idea of what being a sidekick is supposed to be. With a performance that’s largely physical, rather than verbal, Cahoon spoke with ASSIGNMENT X about the process and how his Broadway stage work came into […]Read On »

CD Review: BLUE VALENTINE soundtrack

Blue Valentine soundtrack | ©2011 Lakeshore Records

Where NO STRINGS ATTACHED stands as a date film that’s likely to get you lucky, BLUE VALENTINE practically ensures you’ll never see your lady again, if not one that will plant the seeds for a future divorce with the wife you’ve foolishly taken to see the flick. That being said, BLUE VALENTINE is also certainly one of the best feel-bad relationship films ever made, a continual gut punch to the idea of true love. So it’s only right that its music should be as raw as its downward-spiraling couple’s emotions. What Brooklyn band Grizzly Bear delivers goes even beyond that […]Read On »

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards – The Complete List of Winners

THE KING'S SPEECH wins Best Picture at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 27, 2011 | ©2011 A.M.P.A.S.

There’s not much to say about the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, except that as much as they promised to be young and hip by hiring James Franco and Anne Hathaway to host, it was still the same old Academy Awards. Translation: few surprises, a dearth of actual laughs and predominantly canned speeches lacking any emotion or wit. That said, THE KING’S SPEECH took home the Best Picture title, while frontrunners Colin Firth won for Best Actor in SPEECH and Natalie Portman for Best Actress in BLACK SWAN. The full list of winners are below … Best Picture Iain Canning, Emile […]Read On »

The Dork Side: Let’s get ranty with the STARS, the Oscars, BEASTLY & more

BEASTLY movie poster | ©2011 CBS Films

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t limit my ranting to just one subject this week. There are just too many things that make me ranty. Dancing with the Polarizing Political Figures Professional witch-denier and all-around dummy Christine O’Donnell says she has been approached to be on ABC’s DANCING WITH THE STARS. In a related story, I’m going to file a class action suit against ABC for claiming that this show features stars. Christine O’Donnell? Really? What, you couldn’t get Michael Vick? ABC, have you thought about asking Ben Roethlisberger? If you are lucky, he might even rape one of your dancers. […]Read On »

Exclusive Interview: Emily Deschanel has BONES to pick

Emily Deschanel in BONES - Season 6 | ©2010 Fox /Brian Bowen

Now in its sixth season, BONES (which airs Thursday nights) has proved a reliable hit for Fox. Based on books by Kathy Reichs, the show is a combination of detective procedural and romantic comedy/drama. Emily Deschanel plays Temperance “Bones” Brennan, an internationally revered forensic anthropologist who could give Mr. Spock lessons in logical detachment. Her interactions with her crime-solving partner, David Boreanaz’s emotion-based Seeley Booth, form the backbone of the show. Lately, Brennan has been getting more in touch with her feelings. Although she rejected Booth’s suggestion that they pair up personally at the end of Season Five, this year, […]Read On »

The Complete 83rd Annual Academy Awards Nominations

THE KING'S SPEECH movie poster | ©2010 The Weinstein Company

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards announced their nominees early this morning, and there were no huge surprises in most of the categories. The British drama THE KING’S SPEECH rules the nominations with 12, with TRUE GRIT a close second at 10. This “freshness” could actually be a boon to the Joel and Ethan Coen directed western as popularity fades on other nominees. As for the 10 movie, Best Picture category, once again, this is proving to be a very bad mistake. In attempt to be hip and get nominations for more crowd-pleasing films, this thinking has predominantly back-fired with only […]Read On »

The Complete List of the 2011 Golden Globe Awards

THE SOCIAL NETWORK movie poster | © 2010 Sony Pictures

If you didn’t watch last night’s 2011 Golden Globe Awards, you probably missed one of the most uncomfortably bizarre telecasts in Globe history. Host Ricky Gervais skewered the Hollywood elite in ways that clearly made everyone nervous (and a little miffed) in the room. Of course, it was fun and unpredictable, which is why the Globes are inherently more entertainment than the more buttoned down Oscar telecast which arrives a month later, but don’t expect Gervais to be asked back for a third time next year. As for the winners, there were a few surprises (THE KING’S SPEECH took home […]Read On »
