CD review: CARS 2 original soundtrack

Though not  nearly as well reviewed a Pixar film as UP, but a whole lot of fun to listen to in any case, is CARS 2. Where Randy Newman’s more straight-laced approach was more fitting for the original’s desert-bound setting of Radiator Springs, Giacchino’s now taken over the driver’s seat with a considerable shot of adrenalin for this commercially flashy, globe-hopping sequel. Disney•Pixar held the World Premiere of CARS 2 at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on June 18th. Hollywood Boulevard was transformed into the World Grand Prix between Highland and Orange. Life-Size remote-controlled cars of Lightning McQueen, Mater and Finn McMissile came down the black carpet, which looked like a racetrack. The backdrop was so cool as, like the movie, cars looked liked they were sitting in the stands. The press section was built on a riser so we looked down onto the carpet. Next summer, Pixar and Disney will release CARS 2 – the sequel to their 2006 animated hit. Where the first movie was a fish-out-of-water tale of arrogant race car Lightening McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) who learns about taking it easy, taking responsibility and helping others, the latest film takes McQueen and tow truck Mater overseas where they become spies. Check out the new trailer released today and the brand new teaser poster above. CARS 2 arrives in theaters on June 24, 2011
