Movie Review: ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES

ANCHORMAN 2 - THE LEGEND CONTINUES movie poster | ©2013 Paramount Pictures

Stars: Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Christina Applegate, Meagan Good, James Marsden, Kristen Wiig Writers: Will Ferrell, Adam McKay Director: Adam McKay Release Date: December 18, 2013 Distributor: Paramount Pictures It’s a given that it’s getting harder to create funny mainstream comedies with the bar so heavily skewed in the direction of lowest common denominator crass, potty humor. That kind of humor is the easy way, but something like ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES does things the hard way, trying to create a world filled with word play, crazy situational comedy and some actual satirical moments thrown […]Read On »

TV Review: SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE – Season 38 – Host Martin Short

After a very rough patch of episodes, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE pulled out all the stops for its Christmas episode hosted by Martin Short with musical guest Paul McCartney. Following on the heels of the tragedy in the Sandy Hook elementary shooting, SNL made the cold opening a very classy and understated moment – they had the New York Children’s Choir sing “Silent Night”. No mention was made of the tragedy, but it was clear what this moment stood for. Very memorable. The rest of the episode was filled with an endless parade of big name cameos (Samuel L. Jackson, Alec […]Read On »

Stars: Fred Armisen, Vanessa Bayer, Bill Hader, Taran Killam, Seth Meyers, Bobby Moynihan, Nasim Pedrad, Jay Pharoah, Jason Sudeikis, Kenan Thompson, Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Tim Robinson, Cecily Strong Network: NBC, airs Saturday nights Original Telecast: December 8, 2012 SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE returns after a three-week hiatus, and the time away still hasn’t made the show any sharper or any funnier. Season 38 has turned into one of the worst seasons in some time and I still haven’t figured out why. Kristen Wiig and Andy Samburg leaving should not have killed the show’s momentum. They were good, but they weren’t […]Read On »

TV Review: SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE – Season 38 – Host Jeremy Renner

Stars: Fred Armisen, Vanessa Bayer, Bill Hader, Taran Killam, Seth Meyers, Bobby Moynihan, Nasim Pedrad, Jay Pharoah, Jason Sudeikis, Kenan Thompson, Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Tim Robinson, Cecily Strong Network: NBC, airs Saturday nights Original Telecast: November 17, 2012 The downward spiral of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE continues with this abysmal episode hosted by Jeremy Renner. While Renner is an amazing dramatic actor, doing live TV is not necessarily his strong suit, although when his piano failed to play during his monologue, he handled himself quite well until the problem was fixed. That said, most of the sketches were terrible this […]Read On »

TV Review: SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE – Season 38 – Host Anne Hathaway

Stars: Fred Armisen, Vanessa Bayer, Bill Hader, Taran Killam, Seth Meyers, Bobby Moynihan, Nasim Pedrad, Jay Pharoah, Jason Sudeikis, Kenan Thompson, Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Tim Robinson, Cecily Strong Network: NBC, airs Saturday nights Original Telecast: November 10, 2012 After last week’s hilarious episode with host Louis C.K., SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE struggles once again with returning host Anne Hathaway (this is her third time). Like her previous two stints, Hathaway is fantastic and very funny. In many ways she’s a stronger performer than the material she’s given and her ability to put herself out there and look ridiculous is part […]Read On »

Again, the writing is a bit on the weak side, but when you have someone who is game and as talented as Bruno, even lackluster material suddenly comes […]Read On »

Once again Kate McKinnon rises to the top as one of the most promising new performers as the series relies heavily on Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis to wring laughs out […]Read On »

Even though NBC gave its plum post THE OFFICE time slot to the traditional sitcom WHITNEY this fall, NBC has been very encouraged by the single camera comedy UP ALL NIGHT starring Christina Applegate and Will Arnett that’s been holding its own on Wednesday nights. That’s one of the reasons NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt decided to move UP ALL NIGHT to Thursday nights at 9:30 midseason and spoke about the change at today’s TCA press tour. “We’re very buoyed by UP ALL NIGHT,” says Greenblatt. “It’s creatively strong and getting stronger. It was thrown out on its own on […]Read On »
